You can hardly argue with one of the greatest atrocities...
Oh come on, in terms of numbers, it pales when compared to the deaths of Stalinist USSR, of Cambodia, of Uganda, of Nazi Germany, of Maoist China, of Rwanda, of Kurdistan, of Chechnya. Do I need to go on?
Speaking of Erith:

No, I think what you are looking for is that the act was commited against Americans. It is an atrocity, but many, many of these atrocities have happened in our time, just that it happened to the US where these things aren't meant to happen.

Depends on the context. The motives and the way it was carried out against unsuspecting civilians merits the wording he used IMO.
Unlike those 800 000 goddamn militant Tutsi men, women and children, I suppose?

Not so. The trivializing of the attacks these days just makes me wonder what can be explained by some people's ultra short attention span and what must be credited to ulterior motives.
The trivializing is mostly done by people who've always hated the US.

KH, he said it was one of the worst, not the worst. Stop twisting it around.
It's not one of the worst, unless you either
a) Count the top 1000 as all "one of the worst"
b) Count some people's lives for more than others
What happened in New York etc. disgusted me. But I won't be a stupid git and run after my own tail whining about how it was something unprecedented in all of history...

So beacuse there was a gruesome genocide in Rwanda, the 9/11 attacks weren't atrocious?
If they'd said "one of the worst atrocities of the last decade"...or even 50 years, I'd be inclined to agree. On that list, it probably comes in 10 or twenty spots down from the biggies of Cambodia, Rwanda etc.
Until then, it's an overreaction, chicken little-ish type thing.
While we are reviewing history, why doesn't someone post some of the responses of nations that suffered an attack like the US experienced on 9/11? America can be trusted as a superpower. Not only did she selectively target the military but now she is helping to rebuild the country that supported the attacks. Like the article says. Some people just have an irrational hatred for the United States that seems to guide their thoughts.
