And I'm fairly certain there are, at least in theory, laws protecting job security of strikers, though I could be wrong.
Of all of the industrialzed nations, the US has the least protections for organized labor. We have just enough to keep the unions in the system instead of listening to people like me. If there had never been an NLRB, The the USSA would very likely be around today, that's the United Socialist States of America.
You really don't seem to have a clue how close the US came to communist revolution in the 30s. Roosevelt saved the country, because he gave people hope that the system could be fixed (even if he failed at fixing it). The capitalists (the real capitalists, like the Rockefellers and DuPonts) kept their yachts running and stocked in case they had to beat a hasty retreat to Europe.
So, please, take away any sense of hope and protection that labor might have of getting a fair shake. Cause once they lose it, I get a lot of followers.
To deal with your points, while it is true you cannot be fired for striking over legitimate job grievenances (such as trying to force bargining or protesting the companies failure to abide by the contract it signed), it can permanently replace you, meaning the same exact thing, you're out of a job. The distinction is technical, you're still fired. Wildcat strikes, political strikes, sympathy strikes, etc. are all illegal, and you can be fired outright for those.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
I would lock up all the pony-tail wearing boys in Florida. That would fix things just fine...
I been watching "Easy Rider"...
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
Not with another UN, but with an American alliance with friendly states.
For too long, the UN has been the focal point of anti-American (and anti-Israel) activism. I find it unconscionable that we continue to support this abomination.
The only reason we are still members is our veto on the Security Council. With that veto, we can at least prevent the wheels from completely coming off. But I wholly agree with US administration after administration in withholding US funding of UN activities. The UN is way out in "left field," so to speak. I don't see any way it can be fixed.
It is interesting what happens when the haves and have-nots all get one vote.
Maybe if we drafted some of those slackers at UT that would help the ole cause, too...

So what you're saying is that 75.5% and 71% state and federal violent crimes were committed by people who were sober! Sober people are dangerous! We should look them all up to make thw world safer for us druggies!
According to the DOT on an average day at randomly selected times about 5 1/2% of the people on the road are intoxicated. If this figure can be substituted to approximate the average number of drunks running around then it would appear that drunks are about 5 or 6 times more likely to committ crimes.
IIRC the figure for youthful offenders is even more dramatic. About 90% of adolescents committing violent crimes were on alcohol and / or drugs.
"I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!
On second thought, I'd just scrap the constitution and make SuperSneak the Overlord of the US. That ought to fix everything.

I just don't know why Americans put up with it. Most of their taxes go to defence and they get f*ck all in terms of government benefits which are standard in other Western countries such as a real social safety net and free health care etc.
AND THEY DEFEND IT. Its like, "I'm a moron, hit me again please."
That's how it looks to us outsiders anyway.
The wealthiest country on earth can't even provide universal health care to its citizens? You look at that and wonder why the citizens haven't stormed Washington. BUT THEY DEFEND IT.
You people over there in the State are really getting ROYALLY screwed and you don't even seem to know it. Meanwhile a tiny minority of wealthy Americans pay virtually no tax and live like feudal Kings and Queens.
I'll never understand it.
Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..
Because they all think that they can be filthy rich so they don't have to pay taxes and live like kings?

You've already got NATO. The UN is not an military alliance.
Besides, what happens when these vassals start to get less than compliant? Give them the boot? You'll soon end up with no-one, not that any major country would join your alliance anyway.
For too long, the UN has been the focal point of anti-American (and anti-Israel) activism. I find it unconscionable that we continue to support this abomination.
Well, I don't think bin Laden was working under the auspices of the UN. Do you think that Israel would be free of terrorists if it was not for the UN? Hardly. It's rather ridiculous to claim that the UN is the focal point of anti-Americanism. If you left the UN, anti-Americanism would doubtless increase.
Guess what? The UN isn't there to defend American interests, it's there to foster international cooperation. If it's not bowing to America and going by the international consensus, then it's doing it's job.
-Close all foreign military bases immediately, beginning with those in the Middle East. Deploy no military forces outside of the Western Hemisphere (and in the Pacific, no naval forces past Midway Island or so).
-Complete, unrestricted free trade with every country, no matter who it is, from Communist China to the UK
-Withdrawal from all foreign military alliances, especially NATO
-Establish a policy of no more conventional wars or interventions, but let it be known that any direct attacks on America will be met with nuclear weapons
Domestic Policy:
-Begin to follow the Constitution EXACTLY as it is written. This means to end gun control, for instance
-Elimination of federal social programs, especially Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, federal housing, federal welfare, etc.
-Elimination of the income tax
-Reduce the military across the board by at least 95% in every area except for ICBMs
-Scrap Echelon and any other federal law enforcement programs used for monitoring citizens without a warrant
-Immediate release of all citizens held without trial
Introducing Cnanada 2!!!
Other than not having foreign military bases, this is pretty much the exact opposite of Canada.
