work two jobs... the standard work week in America is 40 hours. Working full-time, one person should be able to support themselves. Beyond what is required to get food, shelter, and basic clothing, is beyond what is called the living wage. Unfortunately, minimum wage is far below the living wage.
Where on earth will you find the money? That will set you back about $150billion.
The US economy is nearly $10 trillion. $150 billion would of been not much of a cost... I guess by increasing taxes by a small amount just for that would be a possibility. Along with spending deeper in deficit. It was done during the 80s.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)
Don't let God hear you say that. You aren't much of a christian if it doesn't affect a whole part of your life & your beliefs. You're either in or you ain't, and it sounds like you ain't.
Well, I refuse to enforce my personal beliefs on others, whether or not I believe them to be ultimate truth.
While I might feel that adultery is wrong, or drug use or homosexuality or any other number of things, I refuse to let my religious beliefs effect what laws I support. It's none of my business if someone wants to smoke crack, and I'm not gonna advocate a law which enforces a moral code not everyone believes in.
Sava,
Lot's of people work two jobs. It just depends on how much you want to succeed, I guess.

Would you spend 2% of your GDP on a fleet of aircraft of dubious military worth?

Probably not.

One other thing I would do is eliminate political and legal protection for unions. From now on, if they want to strike, that's their right, but they won't receive job security protection.
You must thnk this is some other country. There's no job security for strikers. It's called being permanently replaced. Happens all the time.

24.5 and 29.0 % of state and federal violent crimes were committed by people who were under the influence of drugs or alcohol. 39% of motor vehicle thefts were by people on drugs as well. So tell me why we should legalize drugs?
That's about the same percentage of people as who drugs.
I suppose you'd be shocked to learn that 40% of all sickdays fall on Monday and Friday. Lot of malingering must be going on, huh?
