PS: I'm Athiest too Fez! But G. W. Bush is a big religius freeko. Ditto for John Ashcroft, he remindes me of the Communist hunter in the 50's, J. Edgar Hoover

Ha... I like to see that... you ruin people's lives and send them into poverty. You have no plans for the economy because you don't know how to work one. Oh equality this... equality that... give me a break. At least I have plans and at least there is common sense in what I say.

Odin, I am republican if you put me on the US scale so I don't appreciate your unfounded bashing.

For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

          • Monky, have you ever heard of the lines from a Rolling Stones song called "Don't play with me because you playing with fire."

Somebody throws fire at the republicans and conservatives, and I have the right to throw fire back.

Not too far gone on either count, which explains why I disagree with many of the things pure libertarians and pure leftists say on these forums. They usually have a point though, I can accept that.

I'd rather be poor and free than rich with no rights. And I know what extreme poverty is like.

I would rather be well off with rights instead of beatened down to one class because some communists decide to mismanage the economy, which happens every time a leftist gets into power. I would also like to advance myself whenever I get into my career and not be forced down into one class. That is what communism is. You either listen or get shot.

And you know what extreme poverty is like? Ha! My family on my mother's side is very poor and still is very poor. So don't give me this crap about not knowing.

You cannot expect the government to provide and you must work to earn and advance, not be lazy and foolish.

Actually my family has been homeless, so yeah, I'd count that as extreme poverty

Lazy and foolish? So all poor people are lazy? My father walked out on us, then my mother lost her job just as our houses value plummeted. After the house had sold we barely had anough to live in one bedroom in a bed and breakfast. As much as I hate my mother now, she worked really hard for us and tried to do her best at the time, so think before you refer to us as lazy and foolish

Helping the poor and needy doesn't make you a communist.

In the 1970s, all of my family (on my mom's side) were all very poor peasants. They worked in a house with a dirt floors and no electricity. Thank goodness Spain has gotten better because of the PP (Conservative Partido Popular).

Then fine you aren't. But you must not expect that you can be served by the government or punish the private sector for what has happened to you. Instead you must enter the jungle and try, that way you will end up in a good paying job.

I agree... because my family and I help them myself... infact in Ecuador my dad and I helped a bunch of poor Indians get their cultural goods to the US so they can make money. Now many of them are really well off.

But Spain was Fascist in the 70s - that's hardly the left. I'm not a communist anyway - I like capitalism, I just believe it should be controlled much more effectively to keep it a market economy and not a monopoly and there should be welfare systems in place for those who fall through the net.

Actually, my mum lost her job because of a buyout of the firm she worked for. I'd say that was the fault of the private sector.

I think too much control could lead to disaster but hey we all got our opinions. And Spain being fascist in the 70s doesn't change the fact that my family was peasants. Franco set the stage for a economic miracle that took place over thirty years (with a few recessions between today and then).

But don't propose punishing the private sector, or it will end up like the private sector in Argentina. Battered because of the punishment it received from the country. The facts are their, punishing and destroying the private sector will push unemployment way up.
