So the US owns the oil in Iraq?

    This gets better and better...
Uh... no? When did I say that? But our supply of one of the most precious commodities we have ACCESS to... is in the middle east. And by threatening that supply, yeah, that would hurt us. It's reaching to say we own it. America supplies many, many weapons to European allies... does that mean that europe owns the american military?

You actually believe both of those statements??

Saudi Arabia is an example of a country that indeed would like to see Saddam gone, but does not want American Imperialism and is certainly nothing close to an 'ally'

and Britain, possibly our closest ally (and political lapdog) has expressed disapproval of a war on Iraq

        • I was trying to point out in my last two posts a contradiction in your way of thinking.

            I already expressed my mistake.

Is that because they likely wouldn't be able to go even if they wanted to anyway?

It's unfortunate that money runs our policy, but a reality. I would like to say that America could do everything based on goodwill towards the fellow man, but it's just not possible. Neither you, nor your son, will live off of goodwill, nor drive to work on saving the world for Iraqi peasants. You will, however, when tensions ease in the middle east.

                  • This thread is boring. But it started out fun.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Why don't you get your oil from somewhere else, rather than killing people so you can drive SUVs? Or..

...oh, right... because starting a war suits US interests better.

You're right. Getting rid of Saddam so I can drive an SUV. Or be defended by an Abrams tank. Or fly home to Oregon in a 747. Yeah. Too bad that there are very few places with such a large supply of oil accessable... like none.
