c'mon, this is the man who thinks that he is the "father of Islam" and should be the rightful ruler of the entire arab world.
Fortunately for us, not all madmen reside in the Middle East, who supplies the majority of the oil for the US, indeed, the entire west. I'd hate to deal with gas prices once Saddam starts bombing his arab "brethren"

I know you know as many Arabs as I do, you should know that Saddam is not the most popular guy in the Arab world. His only power comes from brutishness and whatever the US hands him by being oafish.

However, the madmen who ARE there are a very big threat. He may never have attacked us directly, but he has a very threatening position-- economically.

Too true. and one of the things we hand him is a prolonged stay in office. It's time for him to go. I say Ma'asalaama, and good riddance.

and why on earth does that give us a right to invade them? Just because they'll sell us slightly less oil causing 25 cent/gallon prices jumps?!

Go buy a hybrid car if you're that concerned.

I don't think he was telling anyone not to post. He was just saying that discussions would be more interesting and would explore more topics if we spent less time replying to bad arguments. He's right, I just can't stop myself.

I wasn't saying that people were ignoring me. I was lamenting the fact that people aren't ignoring certain other posters, thereby taking up pages and pages of posts with responses to things like "Yarr Europe is full of commies," i.e. comments that are so asinine that they clearly don't even need a response.

                  Edit: Damn these cross-posts.

Look at history. THe oil crisis in the 70's I believe? A lot more than 25cents to the gallon jump. And it's not just private automobiles that run on gas... what about every military vehicle we have? Besides, aside from the economic issue...
... It is very likely that many of the chemical weapons saddam has are COULD reach our troops... stationed in kuwait. He still has his eye on it, my friend.

Why? Because there's oil in his country? He's not going to stop selling it. That would be like a store owner turning away every other customer because he was ugly. He can go ahead and limit his supply if he wants to, but in case you're not aware, he only controls one country and has very little influence with the leaders of the other countries.

At the end of the Gulf War, we found out neat things.. like Kuwait wasn't his last stop. What do we do when he bombs Riyadh?

Orange, I am Spanish and I identify greatly with my people... I like it so much in my country I am going to try and get a transfer from whatever University I am going to in California to the University in Salamanca.

It is not my fault I live in a different country. Don't attack my patriotism to my country because of that. And certainly do not attack my character based on that.

So tandee, the US can allow Saddam to continue attacking his people with nerve gas and stuff?

Boshko: I have you on my ignore list so please don't bother typing up a long message as I can't see them.

This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)
