allies are irrelevant... I produce and trade enough grain to have an army big enough to conquer the world.

What is it with americans and the evolution of language? New forms aren't just dismissed but laughed at and considered stupid. Remember, people, that Grammar is a formalisation of the way people actually speak, not the other way around.
Many of my favourite accents, like heavy Caribbean ones, involve a highly changed grammattical structure with new connectives, brilliant new words, beautiful sentence structure and pronounciation. I think new forms growing out of the population should be celebrated, not repressed.

Least fav accent? Swedish: Skånska, Östermalm. English: the sort of accent the Queen uses. Ewww...Världsstad - Dom lokala genrenas vän

I played on Normal several times, and the AI NEVER declared war on me, not once. I had an absolutely atrocious rating, had conquered and annexed 2/3 of Europe, and still couldn't get anyone to declare war on me. My only means of getting into wars without declaring them was to ally with someone and hope they go to war. But no one wanted to be my ally since I was so rotten.Tutto nel mondo è burla

how rotten of you
on normal, I actually have had others declare war on me. but seldomly. and really haven't been in life danger ever. apart from once, when they conquered both my provinces, but then the war automatically ended with return to status quo. weird.

The point is, you shouldn't realistically be able to capture and hold an empire covering 60% of Europe in the era in which this game takes place. That was the whole point of the nationality and religion conflicts, to make massive empires near-impossible to attain. But the flukey AI makes it possible to get around that.
My favorite is to start as Brandenburg or Prussia and try to create a united German state with roughly the same borders as 1871. However, given how event-driven the game is, it's best to play as the large nations. Try being the Ottomans. Or the Russians.Tutto nel mondo è burla

Naturally I've played Brandenburg before
Russia and Ottomania have been played as well... maybe I should try something non-European.
pre-Mughal Timurids were a pain though... there is no chance you can conquer India as Babur, too much stress beforehand.
