Love 'small gods'. Re-read it every two years or so.
Paikitis, I'm afraid I still don't know what that quote is supposed to mean... The most obvious interpretation would be that the truth is often hairy, but I don't know if translates into german, so that one is out... Discovering the truth can be a pleasurable experience, unless you clench to hard?Gnu Ex Machina - the Gnu in the Machine

How are his latest ones stacking up, btw? I got kind of saturated after 'interesting times', although I had a short comeback with 'the truth' (is that the right title? The one about the printing press) on an airport... Found it quite funny, although still not up there with his best work.Gnu Ex Machina - the Gnu in the Machine

The truth is great, there's often two of them, you shouldn't go shouting it around in public - people don't want to know, and above all don't put too much weight on it.Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

Satire of AD&D fiction actually. Like Hitchhiker's Guide, only fantasy instead of sci-fi. I think it's great.Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

I dunno, I found Pratchett to get old quick. I loved the first couple books of his I read, but then, it seemed like I was kinda reading the same thing, and I got bored of it.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

The first two are not his best at all. I depends how you read them. The humour is quite similar in most of the books, but the characters all look at life differently: don't read all the witches books, then all the Guards books, it doesn't work.Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

I liked the first two... Small Gods was boring in comparision.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

They all depend on how knowledgable you are on the subject they deal with. The more you know, the mroe jokse you get, the better it is.
How good is your ancient Greek cultural/religious/philosophical knowledge?Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

Imran, I dont know what is obligatory in US schools.
but when you read madame Bovary, Ana Karenina, In search of lost time (Proust?), crime and punishment, and other nonsense you ll learn to appreciate a good book.
decameron and candide are the only decent 'classics'
btw pratchett does vary in quality, but Small Gods is his best, in my opinion.

IW, you are right on spot with the references in pratchet booksthe more you recognize, the funnier it is.
about crime and punishment, its a thriller compared to 'in search of lost time'. I dont dare to describe what it is about, I may fall asleep in the process
