It just seems weird that the Israelis are going "Told you so" when an organisation they labelled anti-semitic repeatedly in the past has agreed with their versions of events.

Oh I see... one day the UN is an anti-semitic organisation trying to help the evaile Arabs push the Jews into the sea, the next it's tops. Well at least Israel holds no grudges

CyberGnu, Your explanation of the source of the PAL claims sounds reasonable. However, someone in the chain from camp refugee to PAL official exaggerated big time. This only goes to show that what you hear from the PALs is not to be taken at face value, but must be corroborated.

It turns out that Iraeli claims on casualties were corroborated.

What does this tell you, CyberGnu?

Ned, from what I gathered, it was the eyewitnesses themselves who exaggerated, not any of the officials. And it tells me that the PA are very sensetive to the mood of the palestinian people, just like I've been saying for years on these threads...

What does it say about the trustworthiness of PA announcements? Well, pretty much what I gathered before the accusations - I wouldn't take what they are saying at face value. Then again, one swallow a summer does not make: I don't trust the Israeli goverment either, even though they were actually right on some parts of this one.

BTW, how do you feel about the allegations of Israel stopping medics and ambulances to enter the occupied areas resulting in civilian deaths being corroborated by the UN report, while denied by the IDF?

              ****

I had a long post that was eaten up when poly wasn't responsive a hwile ago.

              Gnu

There have been evidence on the ground which may have seemed to the pals as evidence of massacare. mainly the deportation of 90% of the people to sorrounding villages, and those who stayed were cut off. or cooling trucks which were brought in.

however, i read an interview on an arab paper with a terrorist who escaped, who admitted he had seen no massacares.

those who decided to spread the rumor were pal "ministers".

being sensitive to the palestinian mood sounds funny.

in 2000 the palestinian mood was towards peace, yet peace wasn't achieved.

what about the palestinians starving to death?

while the aid funds go to private bank accounts, and towards rebuilding arafat's palaces?
that's right - they are all rebuilt. even the big one in gaza - empty for over 6 months now.

as far as allegations - according to the bbc, humans rights groups have also said that pals use ambulances to transfer ammo and fugitives.

if ambulances have been kept clean, then we wouldn't have to stop them at check points.

what is less covered (though sometimes gets a line) is that soldiers and settlers sometimes use their own cars, and go to special lengths to get needy people to hospitals.

it's true it doesn't always happen, and surely not as often as there are people need - but sometimes it does, and it deserves credits.

You make a good point. It seems that when the UN makes claims about Israel committing crimes, many posters jump in to support it in the respective threads. yet, now that the UN is making a statement that promotes Israels side, people seem to be ignoring that issue or dismissing it because the person who started it is a Jew. I think the word is anti-establishmentarianism, but I could be wrong. Let me get back to you on that. I know it is anti-something.

For the record, I believe the report. It says almost exactly what I thought it would. It is also incomplete due to Israeli reticence when dealing with the UN, and contains some rather damning accusations against the IDF (especially wrt needless suffering imposed on civilians by blocking traffic of food, medical supplies, etc.)

I never for a moment believed that there was a wholesale slaughter was occuring, and within a week we knew it hadn't because the media was finally managing some access.

BTW, replying to your own post to draw attention to it is sort of lame...

                            DaShi,

I asked you about four pages back who those posters are. You never answered.

                            Care to do it now?

Let the UN withdraw from Hezbollah first.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
