For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

DinoDoc, the French are reasonable people, quite independent-minded. And this is what irritates you.

Paiktis, you are surely right about the why-not-us syndrome. This makes the French more perceptive to that problem.

Well Greece has been known to retain its language for quite some time now despite err certain adversities which make "american mass culture dominance" seem like a joke
Then you underestimate the globalization. But I hope you are right.

I think it just makes them a bit more irritated at it

Not inside fortress EU and not with the recent rush of anti-americanism

The Planetary organism has already produced its anti-somata (white protective cells?)

Maybe. But such a perception of yours is largely based on your view of the world and everyone's role in it.

Nope. That's more like cancer than white protective cells

I mean the will of the people to hinder globalization. A state of mind/ alliances.

Just off the top of my head- they impressed our sailors before 1812. In WWII, the vichy french government fought on the nazi side. And then they withdrew from NATO.

Curse those snazzy French uniforms eh?
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
                        -Richard Dawkins

Not quite good examples. You could have thought of better ones. What happened before and during WWII doesn't count, because everyone was evil back then. As for their withdrawal from NATO, it was merely a manifestation of their independence.

Should we intentionally try to drive "fringe" languages extinct? No.

Should we take extraordinary measures to resesitate dieing languages? Again no.
