  • Rugby - The beautiful game

Considering we are on the eve of a huge international match I thought I had better create a new rugby thread as the old one will likely fill up rather quickly. The old one is only 50-odd posts from being at the 500 post limit, so lets continue here.

    Carry on rugby fans!

LDiCesare - are you going to have a bet with us on the Wallabies -v- All Blacks match on Saturday night?
Well, I am not knowledgeable enough to have any clear-cut opinion. I don't think the Aussies can win by more than 6 points though, so I could say 10 on the ABs.

It won't do anything for Havak's martyr complex, though.
I think he knows perfectly well that the 6 nations could be replaced by a single match of England vs. the others. Actually, I am rather surprised the celts never thought of putting a team together just to have good chances to beat the Rose XV.

Jeez, Caligastia, declaring the old thread closed prior to 500 and opening a new one? I was so looking forward to being officially padlocked! Methinks you've already surpassed Ming for Moderatormeglomania!

So if the ABs win or lose by less than 6 points I will get about 53 gold back and Andydog will get about 27 gold correct? Give or take a few decimal points of course...

If the wallabies win by more than 6 points you win 80 gold.
I haven't done the maths so I'll take your word for it. Though I notice LDiCesare has now chipped in, too. I'll post an update.

            Betting Update

            Caligastia 100-40 = 60
            finbar 100-20 = 80
            Andydog 100-20 = 80
            LDiCesares 100-10 = 90

So the pool now stands at 90 Civ Gold. These maths are now taking on Einstein-ish proportions!

I just hope to hell the Wallabies win because it's much easier to calculate my takings than your lot's takings!

BTW, where has Havak got to?

I'm going to post a link to our other thread because it's going to sink like a stone. This should let our absent friends catch up on the utter drivel they missed between their last visit and this thread opening:

Maybe it was the abject terror - I'm off to the dentist in a second - but I think I've managed to calculate the winnings of those who have backed the ABs on Saturday night. Before you all chorus - "What sort of dill's this bloke?" - you should be aware that I dropped Maths at school ASAP.

Anyway, by my reckoning, if the pool stays the same as it is, and rounding figures up and down - if you're below .5 you go down, if you're above .5 you go up - you guys stand to win as follows:

                  Caligastia 51 Gold
                  Andydog 26 Gold
                  LDiCesares 13 Gold

Plese feel free to correct me. Abject terror can work in all sorts of ways.

                    Late Breaking News!

                    1. I survived the dentist. Okay, it mightn't be important to you, but it is to me. It's not even Off Topic. I know a dentist who plays rugby.

                    2. Possibly of more interest to all of you - Norm Maxwell and Taine Randell are late withdrawls from the AB team due to injury.

                    3. Bets, once placed, cannot be withdrawn.

Hi academia! Welcome to our wonderful world of rugby. It's really great to have a Puma join us!

We've already got English, French, New Zealand and Australian posters. All we need now is a Springbok.

We've decided to start a betting competition for the coming international season. We couldn't decide which currency to bet in - pounds, dollars, francs, Euros - so we decided to keep it strictly neutral and bet in Civ Gold. And of course you're welcome to join us. It's fantasy money - no one is actually putting real money on the line. We're each starting with a bank of 100 Civ Gold.

You'll see, earlier in this thread, the bets already placed for this Saturday night's match between the Wallabies and the All Blacks. You can bet as much (or as little) as you like.

Havak - our English poster, and therefore independent of both Australia and NZ - has calculated that the Wallabies are slight favourites for the match. In fact, he has calculated that they're favourites to win by 6 points or more.

So, if you want to bet on the Wallabies, they will have to win by 6 points or more for you to win the bet. If they lose the match, or win by less than 6 points, you lose.

If you want to bet on the All Blacks, and for you to win the bet, the All Blacks have to either: (a) lose by less than 6 points; (b) draw the game; or (c) win the game.

Sounds a bit complicated but it's not really.

Would you like to bet some of your 100 Civ Gold on the match?
