But no. I actually like when the candidates who get the more votes than others win.

The 21st, of course. The commie bit was a joke. I think the electoral system is flawed, but better than a straight one man one vote system.

-Why are the people irrelevant? The Electoral college gave a disproportionate share of votes to small states, which is the only thing that allowed Dubbya's narrow win.

-What's wrong with one man, one vote. Could we at least cut each state's electoral votes by 2 so that at least the electoral votes are determined solely by population of a state?

sounds a lot like Iraq, or some other third world nations.

and you think that's right? weird idea of fair you have. Most people voted for Gore, yet he lost, and you think that's fine?

To be fair, it was only more people for Gore, thanks to Nader who made sure neither candidate would get over 50%.

actually it does't. That's why Bush won and not Gore. The people who held that precious US citizenship didn't have much say in it.

I'm sure you're aware of the reasons for the electoral college. Basically, it prevents the coasts from deciding U.S. policy, protects the voice of the smaller states, etc. If not for the college, presidential candidates wouldn't campaign anywhere other than California, New York, Texas, Florida, and a handful of other states.

After the New Papers did the recount, Bush still won with a 200 or so vote margin. What Gore wanted was a dimble on the page to count as a vote. In Calif. a hanging tab is no good. The vote will not count. Must be a clean hole in the ballot.
The New Paper than did a dimble count (a mark on the ballot and not a hole in the ballot) and Gore won by around 400 and some. The FL. law in place at the time said hanging tabs did not count.

-Yes, because people are stupid. (that is the people who still keep it). It also makes sure that when I become a US citizen, my vote will not count, unless I first move to a different state.

Basically, it prevents the coasts from deciding U.S. policy, protects the voice of the smaller states, etc. If not for the college, presidential candidates wouldn't campaign anywhere other than California, New York, Texas, Florida, and a handful of other states.
-How so? Every vote would be as good as every other vote. Now only votes in states that are close count.
