rah, et al., I find it interesting that the argument for maintaining the alliance between United States and Europe is being made by the Americans and not by the Europeans. Isn't this quite similar to the argument made by the North prior to the Civil War in the face of growing Southern independence? The Union forever, etc.?

If Europe wants to sever the bonds that tie us together, they should be permitted to do so.

Ned, I have no problem if the EU wants to part ways. While I think we're all stronger if we stand together, it might not be a bad idea for them to carry their fair share. And I'm getting tired of their never ending whinning. It's irritating enogh to think that part of my tax dollars helps protect St. Marcus. If they want to do it on their own, let their own tax dollars do it.

ya the USA just stands in the way every time the EU tries to form a EU military task force etc etc etc. the EU is and will be far better off without the US. In the long run the US is going down.

Europe isn't the one who is severing bonds, the US is, they're practically going against the entire UN.
The US is retreating their UN-peacekeeping forces, not Europe.
