But people did starve and die in the 20s and 30s.
And 10s and 00s and 90s and 80s... and since the beginning of time.

    People were quite poor.
    Define poor. Define poverty...

Dal, what was the education and health care like in the old USSR?

Yeah, but the USSR lived for two years after the fall of the wall.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Capitalists are very clean. They have the best showers
Capitalists have good showers that'll break apart quite soon to make them to buy a new one.
Communists have worse showers which will (have to) work for decades.
Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?

Well, the way a lot of American feel today about Enron, ImClone and Wordcom, perhaps we ought to emulate the communists at least in terms of remedies.
Well, Ned like I said, I don't fully support the communistic cause (sorry Che!) but I think that right now, they are the closest political entity that parallels my ideals. The American "big business profit-mongers" seems to be running rampant amonst the populace and this seems , IMHO, to be the main cause of the average Americans plight amongst the wealthy.

I mean, if Martha Stewart can ditch her stocks and save beacoup bucks and the average American family loses thousands, shouldn't someone in the top 5% pay?

If you want to lose faith in anything after Enron & Co, it should be Corrupt Crony Capitalism.

If the government were doing its job of enforcing the laws equally, there would be no impunity for theft above a certain treshold.

Education was superb, and healthcare was good too. there was a problem with medical equipment, but there were cheap drugs.

Siro : compare the living standarts of capitalist russia to the living standarts of the soviet union.

Ah - ha! They are all guilty, so why not just confiscate their entire paycheck and distribute it to the poor!

We can save the more severe penalties for the few who attempt to quit.

I should probably bother to read the rest of this thread soon.

Oh well. I'm just sick of people confusing capitalism with corporatism.
