When my hard drive started dieing, I emailed Dell and got the run around. However, I was in China at the time. So when I came back to the States, called them and they helped me backup my old one, sent me a new one, and helped me install it. In addition, the new hard drive has nearly twice as much memory as my old one. All this free of any charge.
And I don't even own a Dell!
Just kidding!

killer system list i put together in a few mins. comparable systems(preformance/feature wise) from dell would cost over 2000. built it yourself. the main advantages are higher quality parts, and being much, much cheaper. i'd only recommend dell to someone that needs tech support a few times a month. if you don't need tech support that often you are smart enough to built on yourself, and not needing tech support also negates the biggest advantage dell has imo.

Okay, one more question. How important is USB 2.0? Gateway has it standard on all their comps but i can't find any info on the Dell website
hi ,
it is the new thing , and it shall be the way , its allready here , well on a MAC that is , ....
USB 2.0 is a bit more than twice as fast as regular USB, and has actually already been adopted fairly far and wide from what I can tell. Things like mp3's, cell phones, mobile hard drives, digital camaras are a pain with regular USB, and should either be bought with USB 2.0 or Firewire hookups or you'll wonder if you're still in the dark ages.
pg, that's a surprise to me. =) I guess I was wrong about the prices.
USB 2.0 is far more than twice as fast as regular USB.
USB2.0 is exactly 40 times faster than regular USB. 480Mbits/second vs 12Mbits/second.
It's also completely backwards compatible with regular USB.

I say get a dell. I like dells. Macs are good too, but not a lot od games on macs as of now, but I think they are trying to fix that. Also macs are not as fast as a pc, but they are also trying to catch up. So i would go with a dell, unless you have lots of problems with computers then go with a mac then.

hi ,
are we talking a dell from today with a mac from 12 years ago , ....sure in that case yes , but versus the modern mac , well where is the 1.5 g ram , or the dueal processor , .....and a big systems bus , ....
Anyone have an opinion on eMachines? Every time I look at the ads they seem to be the cheapest, but I once heard they're going bankrupt. (They've been around for quite awhile since then, though.) If they are in trouble, is it because of a lot of dissatisfied customers, or just because they sell so cheap they don't make any money?
"THE" plus "IRS" makes "THEIRS". Coincidence? I think not.
