I meant of fake inventions. Art is often pooh-poohed by people seaking to denegrate Black folks. This list points to a number of scientific and technical achievements to sho both whites and Blacks that they are indeed capable of producing such work. Anyway, if I were you, before I go knocking down that list a few pegs, I'd follow the link to about.com and see just how much of the list is actually accurate (and how woefully inadequate it is).

Thats my point, instead of making any attempt at accuracy, false claims are made in the name of "boosting self esteem". The insinuation is quite racist IMO.

Here are some examples of inventions on the list that dont belong there:

The guitar is a traditional Spanish musical instrument brought to the American West by Mexican Spaniards and metistios.

The list credits T. Elkins with inventing the flush toilet. This link shows that is not true - he merely put a fancy furniture wrap around a chamberpot.

The first known idea for a helicopter came from Leonardo DaVinci. He was able to conceive the idea and make a drawing of it, but was unable to build the thing due to the lack of appropriate manufacturing capabilities. His helicopter was was constructed in modern times and the design was proven effective as it did, indeed, fly - although not well as it did not have a motor.

If you go to that list they also claim to have invented "The Printing Press"!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that invention partly responsible for pulling Europe out of the dark ages around the 1400's?

Well, I didnt post that earlier because my main point is that making false claims in the name of boosting the "self esteem" of blacks is racist.

Well I don't know about how valid the rest of the list is, but if Lonnie Johnson invented the Super Soaker, then I'm sold on the acheivement of Black inventors. Can't top the Super Soaker.

Actually, the Guitar referred on the che guevara's link is an electric blues guitar, which was a black invention. But then, it is quite poorly worded. The Guitar, blah...

I have heard that Dr. Drew died needing a blood transfusion because there was no available Black blood of his blood type. There weren't about to give white blood to a Black man, but I can't confirm that.
