"I don't want to talk about it" can be construed as a somewhat confrontational (dismissive), even though that was not the intent.

A simple "actually, we had a war with the communists in 19xx, x million died" would have put him off his guard. The conversation would have died right there.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

We didn't surrender, we just gave up some territory for peace (and kicked the Germans out of Lappland).

And I wonder why you didn't include the Spanish, the US's other ally in the revolution, who did such dire damage to Britain in the south.
Where's the humor in that? To get a decent jingoist nationalist sentiment that would equal and even overdo the "We saved your butt in WW2" guy, you need to refer to French.

guess he didn't know that Finland was a German ally
And we weren't allies, we were co-belligerents.

Unlike the best buddies America and Soviet Union.

You surrendered and switched sides, or the Soviets would have occupied Finland and taken what they wanted.
It was called "armistance" to save face, but the Soviets took back all the things they had taken in the winter war.

Agreement on armistice (interim peace) between Soviet Union and Finland was signed in Moscow on 19.9.1944 and the final peace agreement in Paris on 10.2.1948.

As a result Finland lost about the same areas as in Winter War (again) to the Soviet Union and was forced to pay huge payments (on "damages")to the Soviet Union as well as to drive German forces out of Finnish soil.

You also dragged your feet in the German "explusion", allowing the German forces to withdraw into Northern Norway.

I don't blame you, the Soviets had assembled tremendous forces against you by 44, but it changes nothing.
True, "offically" your nation didn't surrender, but it did for all practical terms.

Interesting on how you like to hide behind words, you surrendered and called it an "armistice", the same word the Germans used in WWI (and it sure looked they lost, didn't it? ), and you fought on the German's side with German weapons and allowed German forces in your nation, but you wern't "allied", you were a "Co-belligerent".

But wait, doesn't this go against one of the guiding principles of any European Apolytoner: Don't get in debates involving America with Chris 62, because only bad stuff will follow?

No, problems come when you start accusing me of something, or say I don't know what I'm talking about, ect.

The French connection doesn't bother me in the US revolution, it never did.
Without the French, we would still be drinking warm beer and would have bad teeth.

We would also be venerating dead queens and kings and talking about how their prince is getting high on drugs while looking for sex on every street corner.

Me and my friend even got a phonenumber from couple of girls. Very nice indeed. Here you have to get girl drunk, promise her father that you're rich, have a nice car to have a phonenumber, PHEW!

omg i just realized something. Why did i even start this one? Of course i knew the answer. What would Freud have to say about this one...

do you think I'd be getting out of there alive?
