Just a question, but does anyone know what the Church's position was on prostitution in the late Roman Empire. This is some of an equivalent issue. I know Roman law made it a criminal act for a married man to sleep with a "virtuous" woman, but not so if he slept with prostitute. I know of no legal prohibition against prostitution at any time.
And yet, we know the Church, after Theodosius, was the state religion - with the active support of the Emperors.
So, again, what was the position of the Church then?
