Moulin rouge could only be decent on LSD or something, since thats what it looks like the director was on when he made it
What do you think Snapcase is on?
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

The fact is, Moulin Rouge was a near-perfect modern paraphrase of Verdi's La Traviata (or La Dame Aux Camélias, which it was based on). It brings all the dazzle, glamour and energy of said opera to the silver screen, with the ludicrousness of the plot and the implausibility of the characters in one sweet package. If you were after realism you definately went to the wrong movie... Although I don't necessarily share Baz Luhrman's musical tastes (still, Sunscreen was a cool record), Moulin Rouge was insanely beautifully choreographed, filmed, styled, set designed and is the only film I've ever seen where CGI effects are used perfectly. Gorgeous, over-the-top magical operatic stuff.
...whereas on the other hand, it could just be a pile of toss

I really like them. Most of the ones I've seen mix in a lot of song and dance. The art form is really unknown in the West.

Yes I know, that is why they are unique. Its like, a great plot. Then singing and dancing in the middle of somthings...its funny. But it is unique, and to be honest ; quite enertaining. I think if we could get a good transalation it would great. The best Bravo seems to do is "give princess over me, Abu bad man kidnap!"
I can't stand musicals myself, I like a proper film with a bit of tension and a climax, not where they are going to ponce around and burst into song at any moment. Do musicals get on the tits of anyone else around here?

I like the classics...such as "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and that one with Eliza Dolittle. You have to turn off your sappy defense shielding and enjoy it.

Each of you must be completely alert;
never neglectful, never indulgent.
No, you aren't. I've had to go out of my way to avoid this drek!
lol, i feel for you. But then at the time, I had no desire to see it. My x-girlfriend saw it 2 times. And i knew a few girls at the time who saw it more than that. How anyone can watch the same movie more than twice, is beyond me. But then again ; I used to watch Dr.Who re-runs alot.

I've probably seen a movie called "The Last Dragon" about 200 times.
Pure,campy fun!
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!
Moulin Rouge did a fairly decent job at what it set out to do, want it was at pretty and sparkly (although it did drag a bit by the end)...
What about Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? All the hopping and the nonsensical plot got on my nerves after a while, although the scenery was nice at least

MOBIUS- you obviously hate classical tragedies and operas too, right? I mean, you know they'll all die in the end, so they're bad plays. Of course.

Whoa...There were some similarities with Traviata, but not all that many. And the plot of Traviata isn't particularly ludicrous. It certainly has better music than MR... Libiamo, libiamo...

Provost re Musicals: Come on, there are some great movie musicals. The 3 greatest of which are :
1) Fiddler on the Roof. I defy anyone to dislike this movie
2) West Side Story
3) My Fair Lady.
