Well said! Extremism isn't always bad. The Founding Father's were the original extremists. It just depends on which horse you're backing.
I do not care WHAT political ideology a person adheres to. If they are an extremist in that particular political ideology, then they have unbalanced viewpoints and outlook.
Note that I believe that extreme liberals are just as bad as extreme conservatives.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.
I must respectfully disagree Mr. Fun.
People like Martin Luther King, :Mahatma Gandhi, Rosa Parks, Susan B. Anthony, and many others were considered extremeists in their time, but surely there are few who would argue the positive effect they have had on society. Sometimes society needs a dose of extremeism to fight gross injustice.
Mr. Fun - people who wanted universal suffrage during the French revolution were known as "radicals"
What's radical now may not be radical in the future. Keep that in mind.

You provide no source. You PROVIDE NOTHING! And yet you want to destroy capitalism.. you criminal..." - Fez

"Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "

True -- I have to rethink this.

Well? This was noted over a year ago during a drug legalization debate in which one forumer remarked that a year before that the topic would've sparked a huge debate but now it was just Albert Speer against all. This was a year ago and the ever-leftist trend of former conservative apolytoners is continuing.
Imran Siddiqui, Connorkimbro, Black Dragon, Dave Floyd...
Where's the old conservatism? I'm not saying you should be Maestrobtos and Jeszenkas but why are you all libertarians now? Where's your conservative idealism? You don't care about the improvement of society?
thanks
(I wouldnt be surprised if Lincoln has turned libertarian or centrist too... and Giancarlo is an athiest? What's Apolyton coming too?)
What the hell? When since coming to apolyton have i EVER been anything but a libertarian? My first post here was how we ought to end taxes and privatize welfare and social security. I've never been a "conservative" by YOUR definition of the word.

"We're losing the war on AIDS. And drugs. And poverty. And terror. But we sure took it to those Nazis. Man, those were the days."
You end up having to rethink a lot, Fun... rethinking everything wouldn't be a bad idea .

By that standard, the local ZOG redefines right-wing.

As being more a fan of Civ2 and SMACX, I will exert my own ZOC from now on. There will be no way to pass me. I will not shoot anybody. You simply cannot pass me.
MrFun: How about separating the notions of extremist and radical, extremist being defined as persuing one certain view to the extreme and radical being defined as a lack of respect for any other view? In this view, Gandhi would be extremist but not radical, LePen extremist and radical, and a hypothetical supporter of Tony Blair who (the supporter) doesn't allow any other opinion than Blair's as radical but not extremist.
Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?

Good points monkspider.
And may I add that sometimes a society may need an arch-conservative to preserve it. Maybe like Winston Churchill.
Then again, how do you define an Abraham Lincoln? Fight a civil war to preserve the union AND free the slaves.

I've heard there was some parliament (don't know which one) where left people were sitting on the left and right people sitting on the right side. And I think in many parliaments today it's simply the case.
