A lot of commentators have remarked on the historically high 28% absenteeism rate and what a tragedy it is. Here in the US if the absenteeism rate was only 28% it would be a miracle--it's usually more like 50%. In many state and local elections only about a third of the people show up to vote.

He's French. The two ideas seem to go hand in hand from what I've seen of thier politics.Originally posted by Saint Marcus
One note on Le Pen. He is extreme right, but very anti American.I make no bones about my moral support for [terrorist] organizations. - chegitz guevara
For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

I'm not sure there would be any noticible difference in France's policies....Originally posted by Saint Marcus
Yes, just about all French politicians aren't too friendly towards the USA, but Le Pen is far worse than Jospin or Chirac.Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

Complete bull****. Europeans do many things completely ass backwards from logic. Replace "logical thinking" for "socialist drivel" or "irresponsibilty" or "reaction" and you'll probably be closer to the truth. Don't even get me started on this topic.Originally posted by paiktis22
anti-americanism is another word for "logical thinking"
It seems that European nationalities are not reproducing enough to replenish their populations. Combine the near universal acceptance of abortion in Europe (an issue that is NOT about women's equality, no matter how you want to twist it), with a general disdain for the importance of the traditional family (possibly from the rejection of religion by many Europeans), plus a large acceptance of "alternative lifestyles", and you get the drastically falling birth rates of Europe. I don't blame people for voting for LePen. He seems to want to bring France back to its sense and get rid of the socialism that has been dragging it down for the past century. I don't care if he's anti-American. He doesn't have to be pro-American. A French President should be Pro-French first and foremost. France before Europe, France before America, as much as I believe that President Bush should be Pro- American, and should do what best benefits America, regardless of what Luxembourg or Syria or Mongolia, or any other country wants us to do. That is why I just chuckle when I see Europeans protesting America in the streets. Here's a news flash: many Americans don't give a damn what others think about us, ESPECIALLY France. We'll be executing criminals, protecting our 2nd amendment laws, protesting abortion, going to church, etc., long after the European countries have Arabic for their official language."The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is to have with them as little political connection as possible... It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world, so far as we are now at liberty to do it." George Washington- September 19, 1796

You seriously need to take a few history classes. Yes, all Americans are fascist, an always have been, while European nations have always been ran by peace loving green socialist hippies. Plain stupid. Have you ever heard of people such as Thomas Jefferson. Or have you heard of people such as Napoleon III. Name an American Fascist President, and I'll officially become a Communist, burn my bible, pardon every criminal (because there is no right and wrong, you know) make my pregnant wife get an abortion, and stop thinking for myself. Isn't that what it would take to become an Enlightened European like yourself, paiktis? I hope LePen becomes President of France, just to humble arrogant, self-righteous, leftist clones like yourself.Originally posted by paiktis22
well the US has had Le Pen fascist types in power since its creation (not so long ago) so ofcourse you're laughing stupid yankee

Incidentally, Le Pen's said that economically, he's on the left.I don't blame people for voting for LePen. He seems to want to bring France back to its sense and get rid of the socialism that has been dragging it down for the past century.
Well, what is to be done? Ban abortion, put the little lady back between the fist and the stove where she belongs, have religion mandated by state and keep gays so far back in closet they're about to meet Aslan, and by Jebus, we'll surely beat those anti-woman, anti-gay, intolerant religious Moslem fanatics by then? Is this one of those things where you beat the enemy by turning into the enemy?Combine the near universal acceptance of abortion in Europe (an issue that is NOT about women's equality, no matter how you want to twist it), with a general disdain for the importance of the traditional family (possibly from the rejection of religion by many Europeans), plus a large acceptance of "alternative lifestyles", and you get the drastically falling birth rates of Europe.Last edited by Stefu; April 22, 2002, 15:21."Spirit merges with matter to sanctify the universe.
