Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, Ronald Reagan, and so and so on, my brain would probably be working better if it weren't 5AM.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Thurmond and Helms are Southerners. You and I seem to agree on this point.

But Reagan? Could you please support your position with at least one example of something he said or did that was racist?

His attacks on non-existant "welfare queens." His campaign story (in the South) about how everone has seen a "strapping buck" pull out food stamps to pay for a t-bone steak. The War on Drugs, which was mostly a war on Black and Latino communities. Cutting serivces to the poor, which disproportionately impacted minority communities (and women).

Thanks. If true, the item about the "strapping buck" does indicate a racist attitude.

The examples concernng welfare could be "racist" and could also be a reflect a bias against welfare in general.

I fail to see how a war on drugs is racist. The consequence of your thinking is that no one could seek to control drugs because of the disproportionate impact on certain minorities.

On the whole, I think Reagan simply grew up in different times and chose a very stupid and racist example to make a point which was motivated by other considerations, not race.

I see lots of ramblings here. Some are interesting and some aren't.

The only comment I have for this thread is that there have been many good aspects about Christianity and many bad as well.

Best aspect is the individual faith of the average Christian. Without that, none of the great achievments could have been done.

The worst aspects began when the bishops of Rome became interested in politics and forgot why they were there.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

Yeah, that is just one of the flaws in the institution of Roman Catholicism.

But look on the positive --- during the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's in the Southern states of United States, many white and black priests marched side by side.

But there were other priests who remained quiet, or supported white supremacy.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.
