Most of our cats could probably be arsed to eat a bird if it flew down their throat while the cat was yawning, but then again, maybe not. Five of them did get curious about a baby sparrow that dropped in on them and hid in the bushes, but it took us several minutes to figure out they were a little too curious, and to recognize the little brown lump hopping around under the shrub. I went out there and grabbed the baby bird, and the cats didn't care and went back to what they were doing.
Five minutes or more, five cats, one baby bird with no place to go - and it didn't have a feather out of place. They were just curious about what was making the shrub move around.
There are some vicious ***** dogs and cats out there, but they usually reflact their owners, and the attitudes you express to them subliminally.
Cats kill because they're natural predators, just like dogs. They're also social animals, just like dogs, so if they're encouraged to be sociable, are well fed and taken care of, they really can't get arsed to go look for something to kill. Ignored and left to their own devices, they revert to their feral instincts.
Cats don't kill for fun, any more than dogs or people do.

Anyway, the cat is down to less than four pounds, and "doing well" is a very relative term. I'm really not optimistic about her survival, even if the vet is for the moment. More optimistic than yesterday, but eating an ounce and a half or so of food with lots of coaxing is not a major triumph in my book.
