Concerning the event in Jenin :
There might have been another event(possibly suicide bomber) with 5+ killed, and there is a suspicion that few soldiers were kidnapped.

The official media says nothing about what happened there except "fierce battles" and the rumors are spreading like wildfire.
According to the Falafel seller there are 17 Shayetet Thirteen(the Israeli paralel to the Navy SEAL) losses, the neighbor says that these are 10 reservniks, my father heard about friendly fire that killed a whole Sayeret Matkal team.

No one knows what really happened yet, but it is clear that something really bad is going on and that a lot of funerals will be made tommorow.

      Eli:

Remind me again why we cant just bomb the ****ing camp instead of sending troops there? What kind of Nazis are we, trying to
      spare enemy lives.
What is that quote from the Vietnam war again? 'In order to save the village we had to destroy it'?

Eli, you desperately need a reality check. the Israeli offensive has no intention of saving lives - only to stalemate the peace process and perpeuate the status quo so Sharon can occupy more palestinian land.

Yes, IDF is there to stop the peace process.

It's nice to see Gnu has proportions and rightfully labels daily terracts costing 30 Israeli lives a week - a "peace process".

By your standards the Nazis were the greatest "peace makers" of all times.

It's only natural that "peace" would mean "daily terracts against Israelis".

You do know that when Cheney visited, Israel anulled it's demands and completely agreed to the cease fire, while the Palestinians were putting up more and more demands, and Israel kept agreeing?

You do know, that since Cheney visited, until Israel attacked, Israel comitted no actions of agression?

You do know, that since Cheney visited, Arafat made no effort to ask to lower the violence or begin preparing for a cease fire?

You do know, that the length of that period, more than 30 Israelis died per week?

Suicide bomber blows up Israeli bus during rush hour traffic
Wed Apr 10, 1:58 AM ET

JERUSALEM - A suicide bomber with explosives strapped to his body blew up a crowded bus during morning rush hour Wednesday, killing at least eight people and wounding 14, police and medics said.

Israeli TV and radio stations said at least 10 people were killed in the explosion near the northern port city of Haifa. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

One witness, identified only by his first name, Motti, told Israel Radio that he was driving 20 meters (yards) behind the bus when he heard the explosion and saw the bus fly about two or three meters (yards) into the air.

"It's a catastrophe. Shrapnel and bits are everywhere," Motti said. "You have no idea what it is to see such a thing ... people are thrown in all directions."

Rescue workers arriving moments later covered several bodies lying on the asphalt with white sheets and blankets. Personal belongings were strewn on the highway, including an olive jacket normally worn by soldiers, a skullcap and identity papers. The 7:15 a.m. (0415 GMT) blast punched a large hole through the roof of the front of the bus, which was resting on the side of the highway, with its wheels blown off.

Northern Police Chief Yaakov Borovsky said the suicide bomber wore an explosives belt and detonated it shortly after boarding the bus. Borovsky said more than eight people were killed. Israeli TV and radio reports put the number of dead at 10, but it was not immediately clear if that included the assailant.

The No. 960 bus was an express traveling from Haifa to Jerusalem. The explosion went off near Kibbutz Yagur, a communal farm just east of Haifa and about 25 kilometers (15 miles) from the West Bank.

It was the second major suicide bombing since Israel launched a military offensive in the West Bank on March 29. The campaign is aimed at crushing Palestinian militias that have carried out a series of shooting and bombing attacks on Israeli civilians in the past 18 months.

Arieh Mekel, an Israeli government spokesman, said the bombing was a sign that the Palestinians were intent on disrupting a new peace mission by U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites), who is to arrive in the region Thursday.

David Baker, a spokesman for the prime minister's office, said that "apparently the Palestinian terrorists' appetite for terror has yet to be quenched."

There was no immediate comment from the Palestinian Authority (news - web sites).

The last major bombing, also in Haifa, went off March 31 when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowded restaurant, killing 15 people.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
