LOL come on Canadians at least try to present a respectable face to the Yanks, don't let them know how ****ed up we really are....

Maybe we shouldve had a Civil War or something to settle this provincialism....

(Oh, and Alberta is historically overlooked and discriminated against. It is no surprise that our PMs keep coming from this one small area...)

Alright, does the rest of the country want Quebec? Why?

Why are the Quebecois so much more French? Is it truly ancestry, or is it just from policy?

Do they lose out on, or gain tourism from America, based on all the French stuff?
I never know their names, But i smile just the same

The Quebecois are more French than the French themselves.

Up until the 60s, they were like a preserved relic of the Ancien Regime. Even their language is only partially comprehensible to a modern Parisienne (or at least they use 'vous' in more situations).

My God! They must be the most annoying people on the planet. I'm genuinely shocked that you haven't expelled them from the country if what you say is true.

The Quebecois have been in North America since 1534. To say that we are more French that the french themselves is idiotic : by the same account Americans would be more British than the Brits themselves.

Our language is partially comprehensible to a Parisienne if we decide that we want it to be. I'll bet some of our posters from down south could probably confuse the hell out of her Majesty Elizabeth II.

If anything, we use "vous" less than the French. "Vous" is a more formal way to say "You". You don't know what you're talking about.

            What?

We need Zobo. I have it on some authority that in modern Paris 'vous' is hardly ever used anymore when addressing people.

I know you arrived in 1534. You arrived in 1534, and remained essentially frozen there (culturally) until Duplessis left.

Yes and no. You're right that we remained frozen because this is Canada.
But as a culture, we had very little contact with the French during that time. Our culture is derived from the French culture, but it has changed because it has been influenced by our circumstances ( Territory, government, economy etc...)
Ours is a french american culture.

Talk to whoever you want : "vous" is the plural form of "you" so it is still used by everyone.
On the other hand, it was (and still is even if less often) also used when addressing only one person. In that case it is used to show "respect". You would use it with an elder, a professor, your grandparents etc...
                    Otherwise you use "tu".

LOL I live in Canada...I didn't forget 8 years of compulsory French overnight.

Vous is equivalent to 'ustedes' in Spanish, and I think German has something too (pronoun of respect) Japanese?

The question is, how do the modern French in France use vous?
As a term of respect of course, I thought that was obvious.

Depends on the places. Mostly i think they're jealous because we don't need a beer add to tell us that we're different.

In a poll taken in 1987, 75% of Canadians allow Quebec to secede. 25% voted to throw them out anyways. (Kinda how I feel about Texas. )

Alberta would not be accepted into the United States, unless Canada dissolved, and possibly not even then. It would probably be much easier to screw you guys as a seperate country. The US has said that it would take British Columbia, mainly to connect us with Alaska.
