Stew, don't talk such utter bull.

Perhaps there are one or two people that claim to be bisexual for ulterior motives; however, they are an extremely small minority, and whatever you might now claim, your original post read "bisexuals are only choosing to be like that because it's currently trendy". Not some or a few, you tarred all bisexuals with that brush. It's a revolting, bigoted comment, and I sincerely hope it's only a troll.

Besides, what would you know about the "goth/metal/punk cliques"? You wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. You bought NOFX and Offspring shirts and were too embarassed to wear them! How can you make such stunning generalisations about groups you don't even know or understand?

I've seen people go through hell over their bisexuality. Some of whom you know too. I've ventured far further into those "cliques" than you ever had the balls to do, and I've yet to meet a "trendy" bisexual. Yes, some "alternative" people do look down on those that aren't like them (which I think is why you seem to hate them so much), but again it's a small minority. It's not trendy to be bisexual. For everyone other than the bigots, it's irrelevent.

    Like Jon said, grow up.

Well, since we got two of the standard bigoted responses to Bisexuality (the "straight" one with the "trendiness" and the "gay" one with "doesn't dare come out fully"), I'm just waiting for a passing troll to adopt the third one ("All bisexuals are by nature unfaithful partners").

That doesn't make them bisexual, and I doubt they would describe themselves as such.

I think I agree with those who said that sexuality was a continuum.

              Ala it is my hometown

it is small enough that neither statistics or hearsay are needed (less than 600 teens)

some of those I know like having sex with the same sex (And I am sure that there are some from the opposite direction), but they seem to eye and find most interesting those of the opposite sex

I guess that might get into the definition of what is a bisexual

                QUOTE FROM MONK:
I agree whole-heartedly that you can't just make a choice and switch your preferences. I do want to ask you however, whether we can agree that one's sexuality cannot possibly at the time of birth be limited to one of the genders, and that same sexuality is if not entirely, then at least mostly shaped by your environment.

If that's correct, we're all bisexual to begin with, whereafter our respective environments in most cases shapes a preference for one and only one gender. It would also mean you could eventually change your sexual orientation if the "forgotten" side in yourself was stimulated somehow, maybe through reflections on sexuality, being around bisexuals in a pseudo-sexual context and so on.
Of course, that would only be possible in a period of actual sexual development - I can imagine that the early teen years would probably be those where one would be most easily affected.

                END OF QUOTE FROM MONK

This is what began in another thread started by Blisterz and we decided to continue the discussion here, where it is more relevant.

I have to get back to you on this Monk to provide more meaningful comments. Right now, I'm pressed for time. Gotta get to classes in less than a half hour.

Just take the time you need Fun.

                    Boddington's,

Did you have a sex drive at three years old?

Of course, because every living person is a sexual being. This applies even if the person in question is a mere infant, and even if Freud was incorrect on other issues. Even young boys are capable of getting erections or react to sexual or pseudo-sexual stimulation in other ways. Most children have at some point in their development participated in various forms of social interaction with obvious sexual over- or undertones.

Your sexuality, including your sexual preferences, is part of your identity, and we probably agree you're born completely without identity. However, your sexuality does not constitute your sex drive. If you're still not convinced, think about all the other basic, natural drives of man; your need for food, sleep, contact with other humans and so on. It's obvious that you were born with those - what, then, makes you think the basic and fundamental desire for sex is something you're born without, something you'll have to eventually develop?

If I haven't convinced you and you feel like continuing, you need to explain one additional thing, and that is whether the sexual development as you see it is a result of a social or biological process.

I believe we're all born with the potential for a healthy, heterosexual sex drive. Similar to that we're born with the potential to be six feet tall (give or take a foot), but obviously we aren't born that tall.

In some cases then, the healthy sex drive obviously isn't fulfilled. People claim to be gay, people claim to be bisexual, and some people claim to be asexual.

I understand that, but please answer my question in details, so I know what I'm supposed to argue against.

I like the way you say 'healthy heterosexual sex drive', clearly implying that homo and bisexuality are unhealthy.

Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
