We stopped our military opperations in the country as soon as the Soviets left. Our aid since has been humanitarian in nature.

I also heard America put some pressure on Iran to exile Hekmatyar. Iran complied -in a litteral sense-, and sent him to Afghanistan.

Tactical nuclear weapons are just not needed. Opposition forces are pocketed and being hit almost continuously by air and arty. They can't resupply/reinforce to any significant degree and are being constantly worn down while allies suffer very light casualties.
8 US dead (six of whom died in a single helo crash-firefight) and forty odd wounded (don't know how badly) in a battle with an entrenched enemy makes for very light casualties in a battle with a thousand plus combatants on each side. Especially when the bad guys have taken 500-odd dead.

Nonsense. The Taliban are reactionaries. They were about law and order, even if it was medieval law and order. The NA are quite simply criminals. I would -marginally- prefer living under religious reactionaries to living under a government that represents organized crime.
