Oh ya.....I forgot, all the years under the Masoods rule. Women stayed at home, the streets were filled with thugs, and there was constant 24:7 fighting. Your a bit wrong. Kabul was turned into a battlefield for 6 month. The NA ruled for 5 years.

Did it occur to you that US TV stations have a choice of what they show, and what they cut? Did it occur to you that the NA castrates people who don´t like them, then shoot them? If you think the Taliban are dumb, you have never met yourself.

Maybe in your piece of **** country the government controls the media. Not here, I suppose the people walking down streets in Kabul and drinking coffee at Cafe's are paid by Ashley Banfield, Nick Robertson, and Steve Herrigan.....to say good things about the United States on live TV?

Please.....pull the plug on this moron

You are really a moron. But don´t worry, I´m not meaning to insult you, just making a factual statement. What they do is interview 100, then show 5 who happen to say what they want to hear. This is what all media do; it´s their standard method. I would think you are the only person in the world not understanding that, but I suppose there are many more Americans like you...

                      • How do we know the feed is live? They could easily put a sign that says "live" on it. Don't be so naive to think that the media isn't filtered in some way. We get shown what they want us to see. I constantly flip through the major cable news networks only to see the same stories on all stations. That doesn't seem weird to anybody else? The producers and editors of those networks choose what news we hear and how we hear it. We get their interpretation of what really happened. I personally believe that America is so brainwashed, people are incapable of making their own decisions. Myself included.

Hopefully,at this rate we wont have to worry about them in the 21st century.
Actually, the basic concept of communism is good.
But it's one of those concepts that work well in theory, yet fail utterly in practice.
Marx was not the problem particularly.

                          Back to "devout Muslims".
                          Also wrong.
The problem is with "devout" Muslims who bastardize the religion.
                          Same as any religion.

Coup d'etats had already taken place prior to any US support for mujahaddin. and mujahaddin activity had begun before any US support began. Absent US intervnetion, it is still likely that the afgan communist factions would have undercut each other, and would have gradually lost ground to mujahaddin who would still have been supported by China, Saudi, Iran and Pakistan. USSR troops would still have arrived, leading to the more complete civil war. BTW, some of the bigger atrocities that triggered the spread of civil war were perpetrated IIRC by the afghan communists, rather than by Soviet troops, so the cycle of revolt, repression and more revolt is not tied in any particular way to the date of USSR troops arriving. That Brezhinski quote is a favorite of anti-americans who want to blame everything bad in afghanistan (as everywhere else) on US action. The logic from US giving aid to rebels before December 79 to US being responsible for every one is tenous and partisan.

Er, uhm my wife was a reporter. She would consider doing what you describe as a violation of journalistic ethics. Some may do this, but to say that its standard method is a smear.

There are journalists on the ground from many different perspectives, including many non-americans, and ones from papers very unsympathetic to the US, such as the Guardian and the Independent (both UK) Even they have to go to refugee camps and traditionally pro-Taliban places like Kandahar to find anti-US man on the street interviews, such being very rare in Kabul.

The question raised was about the progress of operation anaconda, NOT the morality or wisdom of coalition intervention in afganistan. Some of us would actually like to discuss strategic questions relating to the war. Your attempts to convert each such discussion into a debate about US morality, hegemony, press accuracy, etc tends to make this impossible, and thus interferes with free discussion. Thats why it is a thread hijack.
