eli was trolling? he was referring to starving the al-qaeeda in the mountains, not the afghan population as i read it. Starving out an armed opponent is standard military siege strategy, going back thousands of years, and is not banned under Geneva conventions or any other international law, AFAIK. There would be military disadvantages (IE the need to keep coalition forces in difficult terrain for months to maintain the siege) but I hardly see why its a troll? Like the use of tactical nuclear weapons(which i consider a bad idea) , its within the bounds of reason to discuss it.
