    JohnT:

Damn... I was actually glad when I saw you welcome me back and i thought to myself, that was nice of you. i apologize for not living up to your expectations.

    Asher:

You do know there are plenty of nerds who are not even smart... And as for me, I get good grades and i attent the high-rated public school in philly. But frankly, I don't try and I still get high (all A's with an occasional B) grades. However, I am planning to join the army and send out demo tapes to record companies, because I know college is expensive and I dont want to get stuck in some half-assed community college. When i do go to college, i want it to be a good one.

but again... i dont understand why anyone would want to be a nerd? is it pyschological problems? By nerds I dont mean just intelligent ones, but also dumb as **** people who dress strangely, etc. not to mention all them goths and punks who wear make up though they are male?! Why?!

    thanks

I could be considered to have the attributes of a 'nerd' in many ways. But I am not. This is such an arbitrary definition and doesn't do justice to the true nature of humans. Each human is an individual, remember?

And besides AS, what would be your problem with nerds anyway?

Why would anyone want to be a rapper?

but again... i dont understand why anyone would want to be a nerd?
I don't understand why anyone would be a rapper.

        For rappers? Probably.

By nerds I dont mean just intelligent ones, but also dumb as **** people who dress strangely, etc. not to mention all them goths and punks who wear make up though they are male?! Why?!
By rappers I dont mean all the hardcore rappers, but also the dumb as *** people who talk funny, etc. not to mention all them limp bizkit types who want to wear make up but repress those types of thoughts with hardcore music?!
        Why?!

AS: Your problem is you assume everyone who doesn't think like you, or act like you, has problems and is wrong. Doesn't work like that.

Did you ever stop to think about what you're saying?

Someone is physically gifted (well, maybe not necessarily, but they're tall, or whatever), so they go with their strength and play sports.

Someone is musically gifted, (or enjoy playing music), you'll play music and be considered a nerd, that is if you're good enough and that is your only defining characteristic.

When you're young, you never stop to wonder if you're a nerd. Then, when you're older, you may realize, hey, I know a lot of stuff about computers (or another "nerdy thing"), and I don't have any other defining characteritic, so I must be a nerd, "Haha".

Doesn't mean your totally socially inept, you're usually a little shy (ot a lot), and have an interest in scholastics.

WAIT ONE MINUTE... Nobody WANT's to be a nerd... And I'm sure they don't consider themselves nerds. "Nerds" is a label applied by others... applied by jerks and idiots who are looking to think they are better than others... and they prove it by calling other people nerds... People are who they are... Not the label applied by cruel bastards... like you.

When in reality it is Albert himself who has the problems. He is the one who keeps posting crappy depressed poetry on this board. He is the one who moans about being alone. Albert realizes what a lowly and disgusting piece of trash he is, and so tries to denegrate others to make himself feel better. Pathetic indeed.

                      LOL
I actually did lol at this, and I'm not just making it up .
Not to mention that he has 5000+ posts.

Anyway, to actually take him seriously...
I don't think anyone wants to be a nerd, they just kind of don't know how to stop being a nerd. They don't know how to deal with people, so instead they play strategy computer games and stuff for fun instead of conversation. What nerds!

So much for the taking him seriously.

I'm a clean-freak. The last time I've been bullied was 1st grade (that ended after I beat the crap out of the bully). During my adolescence I often was involved in fights. I participated in school sports throughout junior high and high school (wrestling). I have a decent social life.

I'm a "jock," a "slacker," a "punk," and I fit a number of other stereotypes.

One of those happens to be "nerd." I enjoy learning. I want to understand how the world works.

I don't know why you feel the need to pidgeonhole people as normal or abnormal, the latter being somehow "wrong," but grow up. People are different.

I was a nerd in fourth grade. Then fifth grade through sixth grade, I became popular, almost a jock. Then by 7th grade I found my proper identity. Friends about evenly split between boys and girls, and I don't really care what anybody thinks of me except my friends and girlfriend. Its cool being satisfied completely with your life.

Anyway, I continue to stand by my hypothesis that nerds don't want to be nerds, they just don't know how not to.

I'll back that up. I was voted "Best Dressed" back in High School, I was on the basketball team and I work out regularly now. I'm not in a mathematical or scientific field in college, and I have a great deal of friends. I'm also a nerd. You'll probably find me in the library researching something that'll bore you to tears, but what I find fascinating. Being yourself means that you'll be viewed differently by different groups of peple, and most of them respect you for it. Strength in diversity.

Yeah -- threads that discuss stereotypes as if they are legitimate can be -- how should I put it -- boring??

I enjoy reading, bowling, chess, movies, dancing at nightclubs with friends, and writing fiction. I'm quiet type of person, but sociable, fun and have some good friends.
I originally come from a SMALL town of 300 people, was raised as a Catholic, but now I am a non-coformist Christian with my own, independent beliefs. And another part of my identity is being gay.

Watch some naive attempt to pigeon-hole my interests and background to one superficial stereotype.

I'm a nerd, and I want to be. I know how not to be a nerd, but I most certainly am not going to put up some sort of charade just to fit in and get some (obviously) worthless 'friends' - what self respecting nerd would do that?

I don't see why people take the term 'nerd' to be negative, anyways. It implies a certain personality type (and quite broadly, I might add) - and it'd be silly to say that there is only one 'proper' personality, or that certain personalities aren't right.

Although, I find it ironic that it's Albert Speer who is accusing people of having a bad personality.
