  • Why would anyone be a nerd?

why? what's the point? why would someone's parents let them turn into this anti-social, dirty, weird person? why would they still remain a nerd after years of bullying? and they are fighting against the nature of males... it takes more effort to be a nerd than a normal person without any benefits at all so why would anyone be a nerd?

and don't say some bull**** like, 'they care about their grades' cause there are plenty of physically and socially healthy people who are great sucesses in life and academics.

    thanks

The search for truth must begin at home.

Perhaps we should kill them alongside the "retards," eh Albert?

Why would anyone be a nerd?
What the hell kind of question is that?

You can also ask "Why would anyone be a jock?" or "Why would anyone be a prep?" or "Why would anyone be a slacker?".

        People are who they are.

People don't decide to become "nerds" and become anti-social. I'm guessing they're anti-social, and become "nerds" accordingly.

Maybe you're just jealous of these "nerds"? Ever think of that? Chances are they're getting a better job than you ever will.

PS: Not all nerds or geeks are antisocial and got bullied.

Maybe I should re-phrase my question...

why would anyone become a nerd, when being a nerd is un-profitable.

Society has us fulfill certain standards and we gain immensely by following these standards. Nerds and other outcasts are only creating problems for themselves.

              Asher:

If they do get a better job, it's only cause their parents are wealthy... wealthy and they act like this? God damn. That's wrong.

Being a nerd is unprofitable? You wanna tell that to Gates, Wozniak, Bushnell, and a bunch of "unprofitable" nerds that populate the high paying positions in medicine, computer science, and a host of disciplines you can't even pronounce?

Jesus, Albert, I think my greatest shame here on this message board was in cheerfully welcoming you back. I guess I repressed all the memories of who you really were.

                  Huh?

Do you know who a huge nerd is?
                  Bill Gates.
                  Unprofitable my ass.

Nerds create problems for themselves because they study hard to get into good schools and get a good job?

Do you know who the real outcasts are? The bullies and people like you. You just aren't mature enough to figure that out quite yet.

If they do get a better job, it's only cause their parents are wealthy... wealthy and they act like this? God damn. That's wrong.
I don't see how that follows at all.
Nerds get great marks. Great marks leads to universities like Stanford and Harvard. Stanford and Harvard lead to high-paying jobs.

Success is overrated. Nerds are nerds because it suits their personality.

A short while ago I was happy being myself, participating in various threads on the OT, when suddenly a bunch of 'Poly hooligans descended on me with calls of "NERD!" just because I happened to correct someon on the geograhical range of Elephantiasis. Evidently a person doesn't have to consciously apply himself to the pursuit of nerdiness because it is simply thrust on him by his peers. Nerds don't necessarily have to be dirty, weird, or anti-social, they're just people who profess a joy for scholastic endeavors, perhaps to the extent of a certain neglect of the social graces. Such social graces for instance include gathering in gangs to berate people who interject a semblance of truth into an argument.

I do agree with Albert that being anti-social can be un-profitable. Havard doesn't care about your grades if you do nothing after school.

Not all nerds are anti-social. In fact, most aren't.
