You know what nowadays, I think it is time that groups formed and kicked the **** out of taxi drivers, even if just for their poor manners on the road

Stew, I'd get writing your black crime thread then and have done with it

I'll let someone else do it, DinoDoc or someone like that who hasn't posted enough in this thread yet.

For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

Actually, one of my favourite clubs back home is situated about 50 metres from the heart of the gay village (Rich or EiF can vouch for this). Indeed, on some night it holds gay nights, but not on Fridays which is the night I go on.

Upon exitting, I've regularly had to stand in queues for a taxi rank around the corner, called "Rainbow Cars". I knew the queues were probably 90% gay guys, some of them getting off, and it didn't bother me, because I knew what to expect and that I could choose to leave and get another taxi rank.

So I'm not a bigot or anti-gay - it's just events like this that get forced upon theee that piss people off and make people like the aforementioned taxi driver want to **** some heads in.

Right and how many people in the school openly came out and admitted they were gay? If none why not? I'm just going on what Rich and Iain have posted on here in different threads when you've been ranting about stuff. Also didn't you say how much you hated the 'scallies' and how you tended to isolate yourself in a group of similar thinking people? You might have gone to a state school in Salford but did you go there and try and avoid the reality of it?

It helps that you are a straight white male. Took me a long time to start seeing it around me as well. You are lucky though. When I was working in the supermarket when I was about 17 I was told that I was too slow and I should work like I was pulling a black man off my mum which was supposed to be a joke. Discrimination is around everywhere. People know it's supposed to be wrong so they don't always come out with it openly but that doesn't mean it doesn't affect their decisions or what they'll say in private.

YES! Three out of three. It's the implication that's wrong there and if you really don't know what I mean or why it's wrong then I think you are backing up my argument.

I can accept a different worldview I'd just like you to admit your predjudices.

I've met you, I don't you don't consider yourself a sexist, racist, homophobe but a lot of the time the things you say make you come across as if you are and you probably don't even understand why. The main reason is that you still seem to think that just because you personally haven't witnessed any of these things they don't exist. That's not true, they do exist which is why these issues are still so important. If everyone really did believe that everyone else was equal then you are right, this kind of event wouldn't be necessary but you can't say that everyone is equal to everyone else and then say that you think gay couples shouldn't have the same rights to kiss in public as MF couples. That is complete and utter hypocricy. I doubt you'll back down on this but I hope you think about it a bit offline. You should listen to the gay guys here when they say what it means to them when you say that gay men kissing is not something you want to see in public. You might not realise it but by saying that you are implying that they are different, disgusting, and doing something that's socially unacceptable. Whether you like it or not that is a form of homophobia. Deal with it!

                  MikeH,

Right and how many people in the school openly came out and admitted they were gay?
How many gay people actually out themselves before 15/16 to friends anyway....I knew one at high school, anyway. Well, it was a rumour but judging by how he acted he probably was gay.

Also didn't you say how much you hated the 'scallies' and how you tended to isolate yourself in a group of similar thinking people? You might have gone to a state school in Salford but did you go there and try and avoid the reality of it?
Not really - I'd play football on the back field lunchtimes when the weather was adequate. Everyone would join in no matter where they were from - council estate or somewhere a little bit smarter. I didn't avoid anyone/thing.

I'd also have friends on what was in the 80s (I believe) the second most notorious estate in Salford. It's got better since, but I'd still be playing football on the streets there, and on the playing fields next to it.

If you weren't offended by it they wouldn't need to put the event on.
I don't think that makes sense - I can tolerate homosexuality, but not when it is forced upon us for a whole week. Why should we be made to feel like outsiders for a week? I'd prefer it if there wasn't a Gay Week as well.

Other gay men? The reason they still need events like this is to show people like you that there is nothing wrong or disgusting about two men kissing or two women kissing...

Hey, I don't care what two consenting adults get up to in their own homes.

It's the implication that's wrong there and if you really don't know what I mean or why it's wrong then I think you are backing up my argument.
That blacks are more likely to be criminals than whites? That isn't racist, it's fact.

gay men kissing is not something you want to see in public
It's not just me but probably the vast majority of the population. Children must be protected from it.

You were doing so well for 2/3 of a post and then you empathise with the violent homophobic thug. *sigh* I give up.
I wasn't empathising or condoning the attacks he did in the past; all I'm say is that with less "Gay Weeks" and gay festivals and all that malarkey, there'd be less people getting inflamed by it all.

They can be as gay as they like in their own time.

WHY SHOULD GAY PEOPLE BE MADE TO FEEL LIKE OUTSIDERS THE ENTIRE TIME BY PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!!!!!!!

That blacks are more likely to be criminals than whites? That isn't racist, it's fact.
No it's not. Show me a scientific study that says that if you bring up two people, under exactly the same conditions in a society that treats them both exactly the same that one race will typically end up being more likely to become a criminal than another. You are saying that one race is more likely to behave badly compared to another based purely on their race that is racism you have no defence for that.

It's not just me but probably the vast majority of the population. Children must be protected from it.
Most of the population of the UK support bringing back the death penalty. Does that mean it's right? If most of the population believe this as you say then that emphasises to me more than anything the levels of ignorance and predjudice in the country. What's going to happen if a child sees too men or two women kissing? They'll go and murder someone? Start taking crack and stealing because it's so horrific? Or maybe they'll just think it's normal and grow up without learning this social stigma that still exists about homosexuality.

I wasn't empathising or condoning the attacks he did in the past; all I'm say is that with less "Gay Weeks" and gay festivals and all that malarkey, there'd be less people getting inflamed by it all.

So.. as long as people are gay in their little gay village or the nice segragated gay clubs and they don't really mingle freely with society it is alright? Why not, just to make sure, make them live in special camps where they could be as gay as they like all day long with no-one to be corrupted by them. Then when they come out of the camps they can act straight just like everyone else?

ps. If you want to find a political party that will openly endorse your views I suggest you try the National Front because they are the only ones that would say the stuff you have said in this thread.

Let's eliminate the social double standards.

Two gay men holding hands in public as any heterosexual couple do, are not crossing any boundaries into inappropriate behavior.

Two gay men who are having sex on a public beach -- that is definitely inappropriate behavior, as sex between a man and a woman on a public beach would be inappropriate behavior.

People like Boddington tend to distort and exaggerate the reasons why homosexuals have such civic and community events like Gay Pride and other events.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

                              Hmm, maybe I'm wrong then.

I still don't think there should be a gay week though. That's discrimination on grounds of sexuality.

If it was the opposite way around, there'd be people complaining left, right and centre. Political correctness.
