      There's no hypocrisy there.

i go to a 'gay' club in Liverpool a lot (Garlands) because the music is good and the attitude relaxed, but a lot of the straight men who go for the same reasons can't handle men kissing!! it's a gay club, where do they want them to make out?
Well if I went to a gay club which I will never do then I wouldn't be offended, but throwing it in your face and thinking it's just a week of fun is highly offensive.

OK then I guess I'll just use my equal rights to go get married shall I?

Also, according to British and American law, a murder charge can be reduced to manslaughter if you killed a gay person who hit on you. This happened in Wyoming when someone beat up tied a gay person to a tree for 5 days until he died and got manslaughter.

Eqaul? I'd love to see your definition of unequal.

They must have stolen the idea from Apolyton.
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

And those openminded ones who posted saying they agreed with me, can you keep on posting please rather than letting me get all the stick as usual.

I re-iterate I am not against gays. I have several queer friends, and so long as they keep their sexuality to themselves it's ok.

Those are just hypothetical situations and probably never happened. Or there are facts you have conveniently ignored in order to make your point.

Feel an urge to get some fresh air, and get out from underneath that bridge again Stew

If you actually look around Stew, no one is forcing their sexuality on anyone. All they are doing is demanding they are respected for who they are and shouldn't be persecuted for who they are, and for that, a presence must be made clear and felt, so people like you do understand that there are gays in every walk of life, in every environment and in every place. Would you like it is someone asked you to restrain from holding hands or kissing your girlfriend in a public place (hypothetically of course). It's a very valid point...the simple issue is, let people be. You've been down a similar road before Stew relating to people who decide they don't want to dress as you do, who want to be a bit more outlandish with how they dress, and that you have not been surprised by any violence expressed towards them, and in some ways, quite supportive of it. So you need to get some issues sorted out in your mind. See the person, not the sexuality, or the clothing...I wish such horrid judgementalism would die in our society.

                      Here's my outlook on it:

If everyone's treated equally and fairly, there should be no special occasions celebrating that minority.

But as is the case in most places, Homosexuals still have some problems with acceptance (although it's apparently much better over there in Europe). The reason why they have things like Gay Week is to get all of the people together and rally eachother for support, to bring spirits up. It's not fun being in a minority. So I see nothing wrong with that.

However, if and when the day comes where nobody gives a damn if somebody is gay or if somebody is straight, then I would be really against those types of rallies as they just tend to annoy me.

it's because of attitudes like that, that they feel the need to have a gay week!!

But of course it would be quite acceptable for you to get off with a female in front of homosexuals. Don't you think they would be offended? Hypocrisy

If they went about their own business without forcing their sexuality in other people's faces, a lot less attacks would happen.
So be the good little silent invisible minority demographic, a nice sanitary section of the population pie chart, instead of saying "we exist"?

We get one week to "force" our sexuality on people. You guys get the rest of the year to kiss, hug, hold hands, flirt, tease, joke, gossip, and do the other myriad of different things that force your heterosexuality in our faces.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

We decided to leave the Union early tonight. We've been going every Monday night for games, and yet we're made to feel like outsiders.
