the idea is to cooperate in good faith for the common good of europe. not for the petty short term interests of the states.

it is very revolutionary if you think about it. the old ways and methods of international relations are gradually fading inside the EU.

But what the people of those states think ofeach other is a major factor-i went to England, Germany football match or should i say "soccer" and the 2 crowds were ready to tear each other apart!
Im sure that it was ony because england won 5-1-(the germans were somewhat subdued!)that i was able to get out of their alive.

it is unlikey the US. the american states had not the burden of millenia of history, they were absolutely new.
they were almost the same, they used the same language

it was like england being devided and then reuniting itself. not so challenging.

OTOH uniting about 45 countries with very different histories, cultures etc is quite a challeng and it is revolutionary.

if the world would ever hope to unite, it would follow the EU model (assuming EU succeeds) because there is no other like it, with such potential for uniting completely different peoples and countries with milenia of different histories and cultures and languages into one pliticosocioeconomic unit.

Funny you should mention that. I'm British, in favour of the EU and wearing a sweater with a black sheep on it right now.

Well I think the time has come to stop sitting on the fence and throw ourselves into the European Union with a bit more confidence. I don't think good relations between the EU and US are mutually exclusive, that is more dependent on the US's attitude towards our closer integration into the EU.
