    • hehehehe. I'm only 20 (but by the time you come i'll be 21 maybe) BUT i'm putting myself through college and can barely afford the box i sleep in let alone to buy you beer. lol. but i'll make dinner for you like i always offer floyd when he comes up (he never wants to try my copking either!!)
Oh come now, I'd love to try your cooking. I'm sure you're an excellent cook.

And anyone who comes to Austin can shack up at my house for a few days...it's pretty big considering a currently living with my dad - you'll get free alcohol and I'll have a hot tub in the back yard by then, so it'll be kinda nice if you can put up with my dad. OK, strike that, you probably can't, *I* can't

Oh, and I had this idea today, tell me what y'all think.

If Matt ends up in Texas for a few days, I was thinking maybe you could fly into DFW in Dallas, and the two of us, along with whoever else wanted could come, could just road trip around Texas for a while....I'm thinking DFW area-Waco-Austin-New Braunfels-San Antonio-Houston-maybe Corpus Christi.....it might be cool if you are here long enough.

      As to restaurants here:

If you like Asian food, and you want a lot of it that's cheap, the very best place I've found is called Kim Phung's, GREAT Vietnamese food IMO.
Then for Mexican food, Chango's is really good, off the UT campus, and several other places.
Let's see, Oasis is OK....view's great!
There's also a place here that brews it's own German beer.....great food, better beer....it's name escapes me right now even though I just ate there....oh yeah, North by Northwest, that's what it's called.

        • yup over there by the Gateway movie theater right? Selfbiased and I ate there once food was pretty good, although I'm not much on beer but I can drink just about anything else.

          • Yeah, by Gateway....I really enjoy their beer, but I'm sorta a beer person.

They have great pizza and pasta, dunno what else though that's all I've ever had. Usually by the end I'm too drunk to taste the food anyway

It's always been a dream of mine to go on a Road Trip in America ever since I've been about 13. That's an absolutely amazing idea!

              • Nice, we should do it then....hmmmm if you have time it'd be great to go to New Orleans too, I have friends who have friends who live there, which means we all might have a place to stay in New Orleans, hehe.

I should warn you, going to all those places I named - just driving there, spending a day or so, would take over a week without even counting New Orleans, so just tell me how long you wanna spend in Texas and I can figure out the best places to go.

                • I could quite happily spend my whole 2 weeks there. Also as finances go that'd be perfect..

                  • Well let's see, if you stay in Texas entirely for two weeks, you'd definitely have a place to stay in Dallas and Austin, and possibly in Houston as well, so that takes care of the big three....Waco I'm sure we wouldn't stay long in, obviously go through, see dm, maybe pick her up take her to a big Austin meet or something, I dunno...San Antonio is close to Austin, maybe an hour and a half away, tops, same with New Braunfels, which we could see in a day. Corpus is a bit of a drive, though.

For those places, you'd definitely have to pay for a hotel in Corpus Christi and San Antonio, and maybe Houston, but splitting a room with 3 or 4 people wouldn't be too expensive, depending on who else we got to come along on this.

New Orleans, if we did that, is a long drive, but I think that'd be OK because you'd get to see a lot of East Texas and Louisiana, and New Orleans itself would be well worth it I think.

Just make sure you come around July 4th, we can have a nice Independence Day BBQ - BBQ the Brit, that is

                    • If you can try to drive across some of the United States. It was such a cool experience when I drove to New York I was really impressed with the countryside of America.

                        • Kaak lives in waco too.
also, no, matt, you DON"T want to stay in waco long. it's a kitty litter box! blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!! get me out of here!!! i don't think that dallas and austin are so far apart that you'd want to stay over night anyway. there isn't anything to see here that can't be done ten times better in austin, dallas, and san antonio. I highly recommend san antonio's zoo...it's been one of my favorite places to be since early childhood.
what about padre island? how does that usually look this time of year? (or whenever matt is planning on coming ...the summer)
also (i like this word), matt, have you specified what time of year or when you want to come?
david: i'm stayin at your place!!!! an di'll be more than happy to travel around with you cause texas really is a fun place to take road trips around....and we've got sooooo much space to do it in!
dave: i think matt would loooooooooooooooooove new orleans......when is mardi gras anyway?

                          • Erm, Mardi Gras was this weekend - today's Fat Tuesday

But yeah, there's no way I'm staying overnight in Waco, sorry to disappoint if that's what you wanted Matt. It isn't, though, trust me

It is conveniently right in between Dallas and Austin though, it makes for a good stretch and junk food stop.

Oh, and I've never actually done a proper road trip, this would be a first for me.

So we have dm and MattHiggs up for the road trip....anyone else? If not I'll just get some of my friends to come along
