  • What are the bouncers like in US?

    • I'd love to drive down Route 66, and I beleive it goes through the North end of Texas too. I'll just need to find out details about car insurance and hiring.

Thanks for all the advice so far, and please keep it coming. I wanna learn as much as I can about America from as I am completely naive of it's culture, people, places etc...

Route 66 passes thru the Nortwestern part of Texas. I drove there a couple of years ago, but don't remember anything special from Texas. Amarillo is a cool name. I think the area was desertlike. I like the desert.

Remember when you ask the car-rental for a price they're likely to give you half the sum and when you come to return the car you get a shock. They 'forgot' to tell you all about fees, insurance, etc. This happened to me once. I rented a car from Avis in Chicago and the sour woman told me I had to pay $189 for one week. When I called on the phone from Pittsburgh the price had just gone up to $400.

Ask for an estimate for the total price.

My favorite motel chain is super 8. You can get a V.I.P. and get 10% discount.

Driving is great in America, but remember everything looks the same wherever you go. Mostly flat areas and the same chain stores, restaurants, etc. I think it's always an advantage and more fun to be more than 1 person travelling. Denny's has great breakfast menus IMO.

        • You have to stop at at least one Cracker Barrel on the way.

Definitely find natives to show you the cool places that tourists have no clue about. For example, I know a great Tex-Mex, and an a few great Italian Restaurants here that you'd never know about. Or the Woodwind & Brasswind thing.

If anybody happens to end up in South Bend, you HAVE to check out the Hummer plant, extremely cool. They keep the Hummers out in the parking lot, cool.
I never know their names, But i smile just the same
          New faces...Strange places,
Most everything i see, Becomes a blur to me

Plus they are all rich and can buy me beer

If you are going to pass through Chicago... let me know in advance about your plans. I offer a standing invitation to anybody that wants to meet, and I will buy them a drink if they are legal here
