How, exactly? The anarchists and the Trotskyites (for the lack of a better term), before they were suppressed, were definitely more competent, in military terms, than the other political factions of the Popular Front.

The Anarchists and Stalinists never developed compromise. And if you say the Anarchists had better military competancy, why did they get surpressed in the first place .

The quiz is somewhat faulty, cause, as Ramo writes, there´s actually three sides: The nationalists/fascists, the stalinists and the anarchists/(trotskyists).

But I guess you can consider stalinists and anarchists as socialists...

Heck, it took less time to give this one away than the previous time!

Look in any high school, or equivalent level, book in 99% of the world, and it will give you two sides, not every single sub-group, and this is a quiz to find out general knowledge, not a quiz to find out who has a doctorate on Spanish history or Communist history.

If I were to ask, which two sides fought on the Eastern front in WW2, I would expect the Soviets vs. either Germans or Axis, and I would accept both. I would not seek to have someone say, Germans, Finns, Hungarians, Slovaks, Italians, Romanians,Croats, A spanish volunteer division, the Red Army, independent communist partisans, Ukraninan nationalist partisans, Hiwis, and every other specific little group that did fight there and has its own history. For basic historical background knowledge, the two main sides are more than sufficient. But perhaps is folk read the posts instead of jumping in, we might get somewhere.....

Well, yes and no. There was just two sides, the republicans and the fascists. But if you take into account the actions by the stalinists, it might as well have been a three way war. The fact is the fascists won because of the " internal bickering".

What do you want as an answer here?

Do you want their unofficial English names - ie. what an American would call them? Or are you looking for their official Spanish names?

If it is the first then there are a number of choices which are 'correct' (especially for the victors).

Your wording implies the second, but then none of the options are correct for either side.

From the start, i have said that I would like others to ask questions too, so perhaps others will feel enclined to do so. Also, there is a problem. I don't want trivia. I could certainly go out there, and find something that no one would know, since I do have access to one of the US's biggest academic research libraries. At the same time, how many people in their schools or everyday life (like watching the history channel..) would know about ancient slave revolts in the Middle east? This is no about stumping people, its about seeing how well we know our history here at Apolyton. I must say though, that the group most certainly knows more than the population at large.
