    Just one thing guys.
Is there any way I can access a Bible in english (on the Internet)? Because there's no way I can successfully translate those names, and quote properly from the Bible, because I don't have a Bible in english...

Here you go. This is King James version (fairly standard English version).

If you want another version, or want to do a search for a phrase/word, then here's the main page.

Are we saved through faith or works?

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast

        Ephesians 2: 8, 9

Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only

        James 2: 24

My 8th grade Religion teacher became quite upset when I hounded him on this one.

          Why?

And thanks for the links, KH. I'll check them out.

KH, you haven't come out with anything really new.

I'm sure you're aware most of the arguments between catholics and protestants come from this issue (from grace or works salvation).

"Luke dates back to Adam. Matthew only goes back to David."
Yup, but I don't see how that makes a difference.

"Besides that does the greek / hebrew thing still make sence."
Perhaps for one or two names but not the whole thing. Anything the Nathal/Solomon thingie can't be explained that way since they're both Hebrew names and DEFINATELY different people.

"And there is the explanation that one of them doesn't explain David's line, but Maria's line, and that both Joseph and Maria are children from David."
And that there was then a copying error/interpolation that changed the Mary in one book to Joseph in another? Fair enough and quite possible. However if you're willing to use this kind of argument for every contradiction that pops up it would be impossible to prove that the Bible was contradictory even if it really was right down to the origonal documents.

"besides that, when will you continue our official debate on infidels ?"
I'll do it right now. Sorry about the long haitus. I was busy with finals and then I just got lazy

This isn't new KH.... if one has faith then one will perform the works. Without faith works are pointless, but faith without works is dead. Faith is like a fruit bearing tree, and the fruit are the works.

Your 8th Grade teacher either needs to learn patience, or you needed to listen to him.

                    • I know it isn't new, but the second passage completely repudiates your interpretation, NA.

It doesn't say simply that good men will perform good works; it says that good works "count" in addition to a man's faith. Please find an interpretation that makes both passages true.

This is serious, because it is not only a disagreement on temporal, but also on spiritual matters.

                      • I have to look into this... does "justified" mean "saved" though? Two different words, possibly different contexts.

One would think that it would be copyrighted, but I can see no evidence of that in either of the copies I have.
