Then I'd suggest welding as you can use it just about any where. I know that NASCO (a local ship builder where I live) is hiring apprentice welders with zero experience for $9.80. It takes two years to become a journeyman but then your pay goes up to $18.50 per hour. That's solid pay for a blue collar worker.

That ain't great, but that ain't bad. And from there you can moving into building construction, which pays much better. Heck, welders can make upwards of $30 an hour in someplaces. Course it's a dangerous job.

myself. I'm an operating engineer. nationally referred to as a stationary engineer. blue collar work most definately. Pay is well above $20 an hour.

Although still nothing compared to what city workers make. Yeah I'm kind of jealous.

Most of our city employees make well over $60,000 a year. It's ****ed up the goverment makes more money than most of the population.

If you can get a goverment job, keep it.

          Here, let me help you:

Without a job I have no money. Without money I am entirely reliant on other people for everything from food and clothing to getting my hair cut and renting movies(which I cant do anyway).
As far as movies go, borrow from a friend - I'm a huge movie buff, and that's what I do. I've seen about 10 movies this month thanks to friends with DVDs.

As far as the rest, well...check the job links.

Without money I cannot leave Barrow unless someone else can spring me, like my mom, who sprung me out of here 2 days ago, well not really because my sister had to go and be pregnant and go into false-premature labor and be sent out of the village down to anchorage and now my mom says I should just wait until after my sister gives birth before going to NM with her which could be tomorrow or in two months. (or most likely wont happen, since its all code speak for "son I dont have the money to send you down here")
Which is what a job is for...you don't need to work in Barrow as long as you can make enough working and living in Anchorage or Nome or Juneau or elsewhere (as I did in Allston and Boston and Brighton and Newburyport and Peabody, all in Massachusetts).

I cannot whore myself out to the military like I always wanted. I have medical problems that would prevent that, its just always been a dream of mine so I thought that maybe just maybe when I turn 18 it will all be magicaly ok and I wont have any further problems but nooooooo.
I don't know what your problems are. My problem was obesity, and I worked through that and could have easily joined the military once I lost 85 lbs. If your problem is psychological or genetic, I'm sorry, but if it is something within your control (like obesity, depression, or anxiety), and the military is a good option for you, I suggest you do it - they'll pay for college as you need it.

And no I havent gone to the Doc about it. The hospital up here has a horrible reputation and I wouldnt trust them to correctly diagnose a rash. I do however plan on visiting the doc down in NM, if I ever get there. If it is a fixable problem then maybe I can whore myself out. ( I doubt it though )
Guess what: if it isn't possible to get something done in Alaska, get it done elsewhere. And there are organizations that will pay for it. First off, if you can get it through an employer, do it (because there are jobs available all over Alaska). Second, if you can't, there are doctors on the cheap

I have no drivers license, and I have no one who can teach me to drive.

Get your ****ing driver's license. I don't know how much it costs in Alaska, but it can't be more than what I pay in Massachusetts (which, btw, I got myself without parents.)

And I have an overdue library book that I'll end up owing over $10 on, with no money to pay that off with I wont be able to check out anymore books.
The least of your worries. You can get a lot of info online:

Infoplease is a free, authoritative, and respected reference for Internet users that provides a comprehensive encyclopedia, almanac, atlas, dictionary, and thesaurus.

So much for getting my GED and getting out of this **** hole early.
My 17 year-old cousin just gave birth. She also just got her GED. So did my friend who was coked-out for the past two years. So did about 600,000 others last year

ACE's Learning Evaluations provides services for employers and training providers, colleges and universities, and military and working learners.

worst of all Im starting to give up.
If you give up, the only disservice is to yourself. We here shouldn't care unless you help yourself.

I just gave you a lot to get you started. Please, follow through for yourself and for those of us here who believe in you.

Federal Government jobs are even better.

The POTENTIAL for pay is lower than in the private sector, but the pay is good and so are the benefits.

Plus you have to be a complete dumbass to get fired.

The working conditions are usually better as well.

Did you bother to look at either of those links? One is nothing but scams, and the other doesn't have a job within five hundred miles of Barrow.

.you don't need to work in Barrow as long as you can make enough working and living in Anchorage or Nome or Juneau or elsewhere (as I did in Allston and Boston and Brighton and Newburyport and Peabody, all in Massachusetts).

Have you looked at a map of Alaska? That's like telling a guy in Montana to get work in Texas. And comapring Massachusetts to Alaska? Heck, I don't even know if there's a highway from Barrow south.

Look, Che, I'm giving him alternatives, which is more than I can say for you. What did you tell him to do? Join a construction team? Yeah, that's so easy, anyone who drops out of high school can just pick up a join one. Right.

No, I told him to follow Oerdin's advice and finish school or get his GED, plus he ain't qualified for a lot of those jobs, since he dropped outta school like an idiot.

Which, as you obviously see, I gave him links to as well.

I'm not quite sure why you're attacking me when I gave him many alternatives, more than anyone else on the board. A person who thinks they should "just quit" needs to get as many options as are available. I think that's what I gave Space.

There is. When I was 20 my best friend and I hatched a plan to drive from San Diego to Barrow to see the artic ocean. It didn't work out and we ended up getting as far north as Prince George BC before we called it off.

Both require a college degree and he doesn't even have a GED or high school deploma.

                                I have my GED.

Apparently I have to say this again, I CANNOT GET A JOB UP HERE AND I HAVE BEEN LOOKING NON-STOP FOR ALMOST AN ENTIRE YEAR NOW. Without a job I have no money, without money I have no way out of here under my own power. So quit telling me I should get a job.
