  • Tubes: Lonestar from 'poly? Really?!

Kid: Irrelevant question. It is a hypothetical that will never happen in the real world. There will never be an instance in Richland county as you describe, so answering the question either way serves no particular end.

Earlier, we were discussing a hypothetical island, and as such, our conversation was entirely in the realm of the hypothetical. This time, we're using a real world example, so hypotheticals don't really serve a purpose here, tho I know you are eager to score a point.

You wanted me to explain how the capitalists exploit didn't you? Then answer the question.

      • I'm not talking about hypothetical exploitation. We're using me as a *specific example.* Answering the question either way won't help you illustrate whether or not, or even WHERE exploitation occured in my case, so if you're hoping for an answer here in hypothetical land to explain a real world scenario...think again.

        • You know much more that you lead on to know Vel. That's obvious. You know damn well what you do. Time to get real with yourself.

          • So if you know this to be true...if you're so very sure of yourself, then point it out.

You've been screaming about Vel-the-Monster...so unmask him.

            Right here.

            Right now.

If I am the monster you say I am, then explain to all the good people reading EXACTLY when, where, and how I exploited (and continue to exploit) the people renting my two houses.

            Go ahead.

The ball is in your court.

            Go for it.

            • If I'm sure that you understand me, then why should I explain myself further?

              • Because to this point, despite all your ranting about blood on my hands, you have not illustrated when, where, or how I exploited anyone in this particular instance.

                Again, I ask these questions:

Did I exploit anyone by scrimping and saving for the downpayment?

Did I exploit anyone by spending thousands of dollars to make the places livable, when they previously were not?

Did I exploit anyone by desiring compensation for the LABOR, RISK, and RESPONSIBILITY for the three properties I control? (remember now, per your definitions, people should get to keep the full measure of the value of their labor)

Or maybe I exploited the people who WANT to rent, rather than own, by offering them a newly refurbished home at a price slightly below prevailing market rates for homes in that area?

                Tell me.

I believe you're stalling because now...confronted with the opportune moment, you're afraid.

                You are second guessing yourself.

No longer certain if you're right.

Or...maybe you just plain don't know, and don't want to admit it.

                I'm waiting.

                  • I take the lingering silence here as a "you blinked."

No answer, because you have no answers.

                    I understand.

It is a far easier thing to scream "YOU MONSTER" than it is to explain how and why you arrived at the conclusion.

I had hoped for more, but again, not unexpected.

As I have maintained from the start, the main failing of your position is the complete and total lack of recognition that the people who apply capital to a given project create value by doing so. Compensatable value.

You said that by purchasing the houses as investments, I was somehow exploiting the people renting from me. That some other arrangement should have been come up with that ignored my contributions to the property and did not compensate for them (which sounds to me like...exploitation of my labor?)

You also said that by making the acquisitions, I was somehow "crowding out" or contributing to same of the housing market, making it impossible for people to buy starter homes because of price pressures.

I demonstrated that this was not the case, and even WITH NO speculative purchases of single family homes (amounting to 3% in Richland County), the price of the downpayment would drop a staggering....seventy-two dollars.

This, you wrote off as "babbling." - unsurprisingly, since it didn't mesh with your world view.

I also explained that these houses were poor candidates for people on a budget, given the extensive repairs needed to make them livable, thus removing the objection that I was somehow "denying" some needy family a home. The fact is that a needy family would not be looking to acquire a home like this one, because if they had to scrimp to get the downpayment together, then they would have NO funds remaining to effect repairs (fix the roof, and the windows, replace rotted siding, fix the Heat Pump, replace the AC, swap out appliances, etc.). This was overlooked entirely as well, as again, it did not "fit" with your worldview.

Further, you reject the notion that there ARE people out there who PREFER to rent, and not have the hassles associated with ownership.

I gave you two specific examples in the form of the people renting from me.

You called me naieve, and made the leap that they lied to me to get me to rent to them, again, rejecting the truth because it didn't mesh with your cozy view of capitalists as monsters.

Despite offering up loads of factual evidence, you spat it all back, declaring that you were right, I was a monster and that was all there was to be said about it.

But not once did you illustrate when, where and how I exploited these people.

I submit that your silence now is because you cannot.

                    Check and Mate.

I'm off to do some work now, at one of the houses.

                    g'nite.
