Some of the ids I have to have coudn't be combined but it would be nice to get some of them combined. My military and the id i use to get into work on post couldn't be combined. But it would be nice to combine some of the others..

The problem won't be the government, but private institutions demanding to use it.

And this is different than a drivers license or credit card how?

Face it, most of us already have some form of an ID. Setting a standard, and making it as fool proof as possible is a plus. If you want to play chicken little and scream how it's the next step to becoming a police state, you obviously have no clue what's already in place with the ID's you are currently carrying and how this will have very little additional effect. And if you don't carry some type of ID like this already, you are either too young, or you are a criminal... so why should I care

But oh please... whine like stuck pigs, make up crap, announce that America is a police state... say what you want... your act is getting old

National ID means that the government implants a tracker chip in your wallet, that makes the laser turrets recognize you. Otherwise, you'll get killed, so don't walk around the streets without them. Like the other day, I was walking in the street, and somone dropped their wallet, and then a black helicopter that flew above killed him.

I don't see why you sofites are always complaining about police states- I played a lot of SMAC, which makes me an expert on police states, yes, and it taught me that people are generally happier in police states. So stop naysaying and enjoy the extra security from the terrorists under your bed!

I think Ming and others are getting tired of this, "The sky is falling!" melodrama over something like a new plastic card.

                      • Btw, a question about putting this into place, would a national ID card be unconstitutional? I mean it couldn't fall under the Commerce Clause, for instance. The only reason everyone gets a SS Number is in order to distribute benefits to those people when they become of age. Though now I wonder what the legal argument was for SS.

                        • I'm shocked that a libertarian is worried about a new plastic card.

No really -- I'm sincerely shocked.

                            • Funny, I'm a liberal, and I'm not that concerned about any new national ID card.

Maybe this issue is just not as strictly divided along political ideology, as some other issues are.

                              • You don't have a problem with it, Ming doesn't have a problem with it. That's fine. Others do. Why act like you've got a problem with those who have a different opinion to you (Apart from the fact this is Apolyton)? And yes, insulting people who don't like where this is going does actually, calling them melodramatic does constiute "having a problem with them".
