It's amazing the lengths some people will go to in order to justify the fact that they can't spell.
When you type as fast as I do, mistakes are made. Especially at the hours I post.

I don't think I need to justify typos and spelling mistakes, especially when the idea behind the sentence is still obvious.

It's amazing, to me, how somebody who you'd think would be rather adept at debates has sunk to criticizing grammar and spelling on an internet forum.

I believe you were the one who started criticizing grammar and spelling. That's what made your mistake delightfully ironic and humourous...

Aggie, Asher has got a point here. Criticizing other people's grammar and spelling on an informal message board is just ridiculous.
        HAVE A DAY.
<--- Quote by Former U.S. President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt
"And there will be strange events in the skies--signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And down here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. The courage of many people will falter because of the fearful fate they see coming upon the earth, because the stability of the very heavens will be broken up. Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand straight and look up, for your salvation is near!" --Luke 21:25-28
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. --1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

... seriously, dude. Perhaps it's inefficient on *your* OS. That doesn't mean it's universally inefficient. Just build spellchecking capability in to the text input widgets of the interface toolkit you're using and it *will* *not* take any CPU time it doesn't need to take. If you really type so fast that your spell checker can't keep up or uses an unacceptable amount of CPU time, then I commend you - you truly are quite superhuman.

While I'm no where near an Apple fanboy, I think it borders on the idiotic to criticize a feature which spelling on grammar checks every writing that you do. That's a fabulous feature!

Just what universal text input widgets exist?

You do realize that games do not use the OS input widgets, right? You do realize that XUL-based apps (Firefox, Thunderbird, Mozilla) do not use the OS input widgets? you do realize that Java-based apps do not use the OS input widgets (SWT being the exception)?

To have it globally like Aggie described would require an inefficient implementation to intercept keystrokes and put them in a buffer, then spellcheck them. Further, how does this even WORK on non-standard input boxes? Do you randomly draw red lines where you THINK the text is?

A "system-wide" spellchecker, which intelligently uses the OS widgets, would be useless to me as a Firefox user...

                          It's their loss.

On the third reminder email I CC their manager, and their response is pretty quick after that.

All I'm trying to do is my job, which is to make development on MacOS X faster and easier, and Apple's reps just didn't give a sh*t until I CCed their manager.

I've yet to talk to anyone I would consider remotely competent at Apple on their OS X development and developer relations teams.

Hell, with the sheer numbers of people using computers — more and more with every passing year — a company doesn't need to *dominate* the market in order to make a frickin' profit. Apple seems to be doing just fine with its 4 percent or so of the market share. Last I heard, they were sitting on quite a pile of cash in the bank, too.

Apple may never become another Microsoft — and I sure as hell don't want it to — but it won't be fading into history anytime soon, either.
