I didn't photoshop it
They were flown from the 1840s IIRC until the breakup of the union between Norway and Sweden in 1905. Norway was forced into the union after the Napoleonic wars in 1814.
I think the painting is a propaganda thingy from the war between Denmark and Prussia in 1864.

I didn't realize that the union lasted that long, I thought that it ended in the 1840s.
Were Sweden and Norway allied with Denmark in 1864?

Yep, it lasted that long. Next year we can celebrate 100 years of full independence
No they weren't allied. But many wanted to send troops. I'm not sure why it didn't happen. The war didn't last long though. Denmark lost Slesvig, the southernmost part of the mainland, but got half of it back after WW1 IIRC.

No he wouldn't. Our history is DULL as all hell.
NZ's no China, sure, but then it only has a tenth of the length of recorded history. It might be fairly dull comparatively, but to call it the least interesting is probably exaggeration. You've had colonisation, a couple of wars, some decent political movements, a nice gold rush, three capital cities, and a long-standing cultural dispute or two. All that since 1800. I don't know how well documented the pre-European history is. It must be more interesting (per unit of time) than somewhere like Iceland or Bhutan.
