How about Mongolia? Genghis Khan, Attila, the Scythians. Face it, those Mongols just couldn't keep their hands to themselves. In a roundabout way they're responsible for modern history. Their neighbors developed gunpowder weapons to keep them at bay. Once their neighbors to the west, the Europeans, got proficient with guns they got cocky and decided to pay the rest of the world "a little visit." You know what happened after that.

NZ's no China, sure, but then it only has a tenth of the length of recorded history. It might be fairly dull comparatively, but to call it the least interesting is probably exaggeration. You've had colonisation, a couple of wars, some decent political movements, a nice gold rush, three capital cities, and a long-standing cultural dispute or two. All that since 1800. I don't know how well documented the pre-European history is. It must be more interesting (per unit of time) than somewhere like Iceland or Bhutan.

You didn't have to sit through NZ history classes. Women in health over the last 100 years was about the most scintillating they could come up with. 0.o We may be becoming the most non-traditional nation with our laws and practices, but from a history perspective we're hardly interesting. Perhaps from a legal standpoint, but even then, although we are among the first for eg prostitution reform, scrapping of all tarriffs, gay rights, that's hardly history-making as someone else does that all first anyway.

People come here for the scenery, outdoor activities and our reputed friendliness, not for trying to find our paralyzingly dull history.

I think this map refers to the Magyars, who came to southeastern Europe centuries after the Huns. The Magyars were eventually re-named Huns because they settled in Attila's old stomping ground.
