    Just incredible.

The last party to form the government in Alberta before the Tories was the now defunct Social Credit back in 1967.

Perhaps someone should tell them that the Socreds had several candidates in the election.

Who wrote that, and more importantly, where is the person who wrote that?

Anyways, the writing is on the wall for the Tories. The Liberals are gaining seats in Calgary, and the AA is going to be in the legislature.

The Liberals will chip away from the centre and, most critically, the AA will swamp them on the right.

The only thing that will keep them in power four years hense is if they get very, very lucky in their choice of a new leader and the Liberals implode. The Liberals imploding could happen, they've done it before.

It's almost like China, isn't it?

Yes, elections in Alberta are about the same as in China. Boy, you must feel proud.

I mean except that we actually have a choice and could toss out the ruling party. Aside from that, it must be a lot like China.

So you have a choice, but you always elect the same party. That'll teach the politicans who's the boss.

Yep. I do actually. It's called stability. Albertans value that. Albertans also tend to join into organisations, like the ruling party, as a way of pitching in and helping out. Some people prefer it to standing on the sidelines and heckling. That has a lot to do with the longevity of our governments. But then I doubt you have the faintest interest in understanding; you would much prefer to heckle.

Who thinks it's likely Martin will do it?
I hope he doesn't. That "selection" of potential Senators was crap.

Well, the Libs made huge inroads and the NDP doubled their seats.

                      I am pleased.

The only scary thing is that almost 10% of the popular vote province-wide went to the Alliance.

TEN PERCENT of the population thinks Ralph ISN'T FAR ENOUGH RIGHT!

It's not our fault the Liberals did not deign to run anyone. More their fault than anything else, and why they still can't knock off Ralph.

I would be willing to make a wager. No party that fails to field candidates for Senate elections will ever form a government in Alberta.

                            Quote me on that.

Considereing Ralph was a liberal before he joined the Dark Side to get to the source of power, I am not surprised that there is a large segment to the right of him.

You should be happy about it. If there were no far right party to tear away from that direction, then the road to another party in power would be much more difficult.

There is a reason that the AA accounted for about half the drop in the PCs popular vote. Push the AA and the Liberals up just a bit, and we are looking at a whole new political ballgame.
