      • You are in the wrong thread
The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power.

It must be a great idea if you think it's stupid.

I bet you think the goverment knows what's best for my money

I can guarantee I know better ways to invest my money than the goverment does.

It isn't an issue of *you* knowing, but people in general.

Of course, it isn't even an issue of that now. The simple fact is it would be extremely expensive and we can't afford such a dramatic change.

"If there's a child on the south side of Chicago who can't read, that matters to me, even if it's not my child. If there's a senior citizen somewhere who can't pay for her prescription and has to choose between medicine and the rent, that makes my life poorer, even if it's not my grandmother. If there's an Arab American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process, that threatens my civil liberties. It's that fundamental belief -- I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper -- that makes this country work." - Barack Obama

Because of course the bill will force all social conservatives to be lab assistants in laboratories doing stem cell research... right.

The embryo is presumably not a social conservative at that point.

                        • Optimistic.

I think a lot of people are risking aneurisms prematurely. It is very likely that Bush will have a much better second term (by the standards of 99% of observers).

                            • It's interesting that so many expressing shadenfreude are delighted that Bush will ruin the US economy.

Just what was Bush doing that they believe ruins the US economy? Greenspan, The primary economic guru of the US who the rest of the world seemed to respect in the clinton presidency, doesn't seem to have had much more criticism for Bush's policies with respect to the economy than he did for Clinton's.

                              • US is your country, OK, you can make what you want with your social security.
                                Only one word: solidarity.
You can make what you want with your money: pay for the best medical or put in your azz. It's your money. But what about the poor people? They doesn't count? If they haven't hospitals they die. If you have not solidarity, think: if the poor people dies, maybe you have to make their work
