The only communist state in the Arab world was North Yemen and that country continues to be filled with raving muslim fundimentalists. The communists government didn't do very well in Afghanistan either.

Raising general taxes is not on the table for me, not do the enttitlments seem to be for the Goverment (I could hope, but not expect they could chop some) about all that could go is some of the expesive and ineffectuall homeland defense, and better prioritizing of the war on terror. That is why i said some increase in finacial displine. Most cutting of the defict under such cnostrainst will have to come from increase in the tax base by economic growth, and allowing some specific target tax cuts to expire as their stated ourpose becomes oviated.Originally posted by Oerdin

I'm actually serious here. I'm not going to stress over whoever is the president. Yeah it sucks for the military who has to do his whim. But it's out of my hands now. I did my duty to get rid of him. But I already have enough depression in my life, I can't be thinking about each individual life lost in Iraq. that **** drags me down.
So I will put this behind me and take a lesser interest in politics. Actually before I came here, I really wasn't interested in politics at all.Comment

It must be the horror of losing the election that has me somewhat agreeing with Ned. The only trouble is to make sure that the democratic governments that one creates are seen as legitimate, and not as American puppet regimes. It is for this reason that it is important to work with the UN, so it is a broad spectrum of support for regimes (such as is the case in Afghanistan), and not the very limited international support (GB, Poland, Australia) that have lined up behind Iraq.The problem is with lack of freedom and democracy that encourages impoverished youth to joint radical organizations that seeks "revenge" against the "external" cause of the poverty. One more thing before I leave this thread.
How does the president personally affect you? This is a poll question.
To tell you the truth, I can't see it. I live my life the same way under Geroge Bush as I did under Clinton. Presidents have very little influence over my life.
Yes I do see how it affects other people. Please don't think I'm being selfish. See my Iraqi soldier example above. But I can only depress myself with such matters a finite amount of time. Or I'd go insane with grief.
Presidential policies really have no influence over my life, or anyone that I know.Comment
