Yes, some people still believe that
We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution. - Abraham Lincoln

No, Republicans used an anti-civil rights agenda to flip the whole south red for the first time in 100 years.

Bigots to the core and there is no denying it.

Of course. That's it. Kerry ran an absolutely flawless campaign.

Nonsense! Clinton moved towards welfare reform in his first term just so he could pick up a few red states. This seriously pissed off the traditional liberal base but in the end the liberals voted for centrist Clinton over rightist Dole. Clinton worked hard to maintain the position of a centrist and that's why he got a land slide, including much of the south, in 1996.

                Terrible

But from what I've seen I believe it

Rural states are more scared of gay people than Osama Bin Laden

Kerry ran a very bad campaign where he let Bush decide what the major issues would be. I.E. we talked about terrorism and Iraq instead of job loses at home and the loss of civil rights. Kerry blew it, but, Bush ran a wonderful misinformation campaign lying about Kerry and appealing to the low IQ bigots of the country with anti-gay messages and constant claims that Kerry was a neo-communist.

And of course, according to polls, most Bush backers thought that Bush supported Kyoto and the ICC.

Are you seriously claiming the south switched parties in the 1970's for any other reason then racism?

I witnessed the transition in the 1970s when I was a teenager, and I can confirm that the South became Republican because of racism.

Southern Democrats were divided into pro- and anti-civil-rights camps. Then in the 1970s, Republicans started pandering to anti-civil-rights racists and they switched parties. After that, Southern Democrats were uniformly pro-civil-rights and anti-segregation.

Most racists I have known were Democrats, so I guess they switched back.

When you polarize the country by going with leftist leaders then the "silent majority" will knee jerk conservative. If the Dems would go more to the middle then the "silent majority" would stay home and watch TV during elections.
Solution: Get a real voting system and split the party.
