  • Why is the US election on tuesday?

    Hm? Is it always weekdays? Can't remember the last time.....we always have our elections on the weekends.....

    I'm sure that is an evil American custom.....

        Every Presidential election as far back as I can remmeber has been on Nov 2nd. This time it just happens to be a Tuesday.

            Presidential elections are always held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. I don't know why.

            Edit: Congressional elections are also always on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

                Does that mean that if the first Tuesday is November 1st that you'll have it on the 8th instead?

                  Yes I don't see a reason why it should be on weekends? I think this is perfectly just fine... I just can't see any reasons why not?

                              Why have it on a weekend? People tend to want to go away for the weekends. Much better to have the election on a weekday, that way you can take some time off work.
