Hey... just found out that Buy.com has iPod 4G (the non color ones) [20GB] for $269.99.

      Looks good .

What if you don't have a cell phone, or what if you hate cell phones?

The colour ipod is for digital photo junkies, others need not apply. On the other hand, people said the original ipod would never sell, and that nobody would buy an ipod mini for $250. I guess they're pretty quiet right now.

Still, 92% of the hard drive based player market. Creative must be eating their hearts out.

They could be more productive by sticking the 60 GB drive on a regular greyscale iPod. That'd sell much better.

HOW MUCH!??!?!?!?! My phone does most of that for circa £100 (plus is actually a phone too... though I got it free with contract)! You're better off buying said phone, or a digital camera, and then a Sony HD Walkman, and you'll have change from $500! What a ridiculous idea .

Digital photo junkies would be disgusted with the 65K color limitation. That's ridiculous.

Creative has huge supply problems right now. If you go to the local store, you'll probably notice they don't have any, or perhaps a few, Zen Touches.

The problem is they're selling too fast, and they don't have Apple's production capacity for consumer devices.

the only thing that's new about this is that apple is doing it. mp3 player and photo things have been around a while.

                  samsung's had a mp3/photo/phone/camera for a while now, too.

                    Utter drivel.

Apple can't keep up with demand - if the others are lamer than Apple at getting products to ship, they must really suck. The others have had years to do something and can't seem to get it right.

I'd buy the 60gig photopod if I had the money. Purely for the size. I imagine it might fit about half my CD collection on it. Probably not though...

I reckon they will in time. Supply is an issue though. Wait six months and these will be $100 less. Once the regular 20G ipod hits about $220 in price the hordes will start buying them.

And that's the issue, isn't it?

I think I'll get the $269 iPod+HP at buy.com . That price is the list price of the Zen Touch (which is $30 cheaper on buy.com).

I don't see that happening... Apple doesn't like going that low for the latest generation iPod (the Photopod isn't considered 5G, AFAIK).

                            Apparenly bigger than mine .

Btw, just purchased a 4G 20 GB iPod + HP for $269. Should be coming in the mail within the next week... I took free shipping. Don't need it at this second .

Well into the thousands. I'm pretty sure I was getting close to a thousand. A quick count tells me I have about 450 here, and half of my collection is back in NZ. I also inherited most of my Dad's CDs after he died. He had more than me. I guess I must be closer to 2000 than 1500. By far the most of them are classical. I sold most of my rock CDs back in 1998, and I only have the stuff I really like (Zeppelin, Floyd, Who, Stones, etc.).

40 gigs is supposed to be 10,000 songs at 128kbps. Just say that the average album has about 12 songs on it.

I guess I'd be able to fit about 1250 CDs worth onto a 60 gig ipod. I would like a higher bitrate, but I don't need to rip all 5 (or 6) versions of Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra that I have, so I might get most of it on.

80 gigs would definitely hit the spot though.

I looked for the best deal on an iPod.... that's very capitalist of me .
